Ladies Drop 74-57 Decision At Home To Schreiner Sunday

Shreveport– The Centenary women's basketball team dropped a 74-57 decision to the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Sunday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies fell to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in SCAC play while Schreiner improved to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win.

Schreiner edged the Ladies 17-13 after one quarter of play and 18-15 in the second to take a 35-28 lead into halftime. The Mountaineers then widened their lead with an 18-12 advantage in the third quarter and finished with a slight edge (21-17) in the final period to secure the win. The Ladies shot 30.6 % (19-62) from the floor for the game while the Mountaineers finished at 37.7 % (29-77). Schreiner won a tight rebounding battle, 51-47 and forced the Ladies into 25 turnovers.

The Mountaineers turned the ball over 16 times and committed 23 fouls, sending Centenary to the free throw line 22 times in which the Maroon and White sank 17 for a season-best 77.3 %. Schreiner was 9-16 at the free throw line for 56.3 % and 7-25 from beyond the arc for 28.0 %. The Ladies made just 2-14 attempts from 3-point range for 14.3 %. The points off turnovers statistic was close as Schreiner scored 18 and Centenary 19 and the Ladies scored 13 second-chance points to the Mountaineers' nine.

Freshman G Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.) led the Ladies with a career-high 16 points on 6-13 shooting in 30 minutes. She reached double figures for the second time this season and added seven rebounds, matching her season high. She had two steals, an assist, and a blocked shot and went 3-4 at the free throw line. Freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.) scored 13, her second double-digit performance of the season, and added 10 rebounds for her first-career double-double. She was a perfect 6-6 at the free throw line and hit one trey.

Sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) and freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) each scored 10 and sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) had eight with a game high 13 rebounds, with 10 coming on the defensive end. Jones now has four double-digit rebounding performances this season and just missed her third double-double this season. She played 39 minutes, went 2-2 at the free throw line and added a team-best four assists with two steals and a pair of blocked shots.

Drumgo was 5-10 from the floor in 17 minutes before fouling out and added two rebounds and an assist. Barrow played 39 minutes and was 6-8 at the free throw line with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. She reached double figures for the fifth time this season and for the fourth time in the last five games. Freshman G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.) played 23 minutes and did not score but she chipped in for rebounds. Freshman G Keyonna Armelin (New Iberia, La.) played 21 minutes and grabbed one rebound but also did not score.

Four Schreiner players reached double figures as Demauria Miles and Nariyah Buggs each scored 15 to lead the way. Josline Hernandez finished with 14 and Elisa Peralta had 10. Madison Parham came of the bench to grab a team-high 11 rebounds and scored five points with four blocked shots and a steal. Gabby Ivarra had 10 rebounds and four points with an assist in 23 minutes. Miles and Hernandez combined for five treys in 12 attempts and Buggs and Tianna Murray each hit one.

The Ladies will now be off for 12 days before returning to action at Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas on Dec. 16 for their first conference road game followed by another SCAC contest at Texas Lutheran on Dec. 17.
