Ladies Bested By Schreiner On Road

Kerrville, Texas – The Centenary women's basketball team lost 92-58 to the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest Stephens Family Arena.

The Ladies fell to 1-18 and 1-9 in SCAC play while Schreiner improved to 12-7 and 8-2 in conference play. The Mountaineers swept the season series after recording a 74-57 win at the Gold Dome back on Dec. 4.

Centenary shot 33.8 % (22-65) for the game overall while Schreiner finished 43.7 % (31-71). The Ladies were just 2-12 from beyond the arc for 16.7 % but were strong at the free throw line (12-14 – 85.7 %). The Mountaineers went 13-25 from the 3-point line for an impressive 52 % and were also very good at the FT line (17-20 for 85 %).

Schreiner barely outrebounded Centenary 42-40 and forced the Ladies into 31 turnovers while turning it over 20 times. Centenary finished with 16 assists (second-most in a game this season), 11 steals, and did not block a shot while Schreiner had 24 assists, 14 steals, and two blocks.

The Mountaineers and Ladies were deadlocked at 21-21 after one quarter and then a 31-16 edge in the second period by the Mountaineers allowed them to take a 52-37 halftime lead. Schreiner took further control of the game with a 26-9 edge in the third quarter and finished just ahead of the Ladies in the fourth quarter, 14-12.

Freshman F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) and freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) each scored 15 points to lead the Ladies and sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) came off the bench to score 12. Freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.)  had five, sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) and freshman G Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.) each scored four, and freshman G Jillian Peacock (West Monroe, La.) added three.

Stokes and Barrow each grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and Barrow added three steals and two assists while Stokes had a steal. Stokes, who scored in double figures for the fourth time this season, played 20 minutes and was 6-14 overall from the floor and 3-4 at the FT line. Barrow reached double digits for the eighth time and played 30 minutes, finishing 7-10 from the floor with one trey.

Drumgo played 32 minutes and shot 6-16 overall with five rebounds, two assists and two steals and reached double figured for the seventh time this season and fifth time in league play. Major had three steals and an assist in her 26 minutes and was 3-4 at the FT line and Jones had a team-best six assists with three rebounds in her 29 minutes. Sepulvado played 15 minutes and was 4-4 at the FT line with three assists and a pair of rebounds. Peacock played 23 minutes and grabbed five boards with a pair of assists.

Demauria Miles led the Mountaineers in scoring with 24 points on 7-14 shooting in 23 minutes. She was a sizzling 5-8 from beyond the arc and 5-6 at the FT line with two rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Elisa Peralta (15), Josline Hernandez (12), and Andrea Salazar (10) joined her in double figures and Peralta had a game-high 11 assists for an impressive performance as she added nine rebounds and four steals in 28 minutes.

Schreiner received 29 points from its bench as Madison Parham and Brie Sosa each scored eight while the Ladies' bench scored 15. Schreiner won a close battle in points in the paint (28-24) and finished with 13 second-chance points to the Ladies' 12. The Mountaineers finished with a decisive edge in both points off turnovers (31-7) and fast break points (21-7).

The Ladies are home next weekend for their final two regular-season games in the Gold Dome, both against SCAC opponents as Southwestern University comes to town on Friday, Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. and then the Maroon and White face Texas Lutheran on Sunday, Jan. 29 at Noon on Senior Day.
