Ladies Set To Face Celts On Road

Houston - The Centenary women's basketball team returns to action for the first time in 10 days on Tuesday evening as the Ladies will face the University of St. Thomas Celts in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest set for 5:30 p.m. at the Jerabeck Center.

The Ladies (3-20, 3-11 SCAC) earned a season sweep over the Austin College 'Roos with a 62-58 victory back on Feb. 4 in Sherman, Texas in their most recent action. Centenary previously defeated the 'Roos 68-62 in Shreveport on Dec. 31.

The Celts enter Tuesday's game at 6-15 overall and 5-9 in SCAC play and handed the Ladies a 75-66 at home on Jan. 10. St. Thomas fell at Dallas, 73-41, on Feb. 4 in its last game. The Ladies are 1-10 on the road this season while the Celts are 4-8 at home.

Sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) enters Tuesday's play second in the conference in rebounding (8.1/game) and is second on the team in scoring (8.5 PPG) and 24th in the SCAC. Jones is one of four Ladies averaging 8.1 PPG or better, led by team leader, sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) at 8.9 PPG, freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) at 8.3 PPG, and freshman F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) at 8.1 PPG.

Stokes, who led the Ladies in scoring (12) in the win at Austin College, is also seventh in the league in rebounding, averaging 5.9 boards per game. She has reached double figures six times this season, Drumgo has reached double figures in scoring in five of her last six games and Barrow has reached double figures an impressive eight times this season. Freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.) scored nine in the Austin College win and averages 6.4 PPG with five double-digit performances this season.

Jones has now reached double figures seven times this season, grabbed 10 or more rebounds in a game eight times, and has five double-doubles. She ranks second in the conference in both defensive and offensive rebounds, third in minutes played, sixth in steals, 10th in FT %, and 11th in blocked shots. Barrow is sixth in FT %, 10th in FG %, and 14th in assists. Drumgo ranks 11th in steals, 13th in FT %, and 15th in rebounding.

Despite the Ladies' struggles this season, they have held 11 of their 23 opponents to 70 points or less in a game this season and six to 65 or fewer. The Ladies have turned the ball over 10 times or less in a game three times this season and all three have come in the last nine games. The Ladies have been busy at the free throw line lately, as they have made at least 21 free throws in four straight games and have made 20+ five times this season.

The Ladies will finish their regular season at Colorado College on Sunday, Feb. 19 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
