Ladies Fall 75-66 At Home To St.Thomas On Tuesday

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team fell 75-66 to the University of St. Thomas Celts on Tuesday evening in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies are now 1-15 overall and 1-6 in SCAC play while the Celts improved to 3-11 and 2-5 in conference play. The Celts edged the Ladies 15-14 in the first quarter and then the Maroon and White returned the favor in the second period, 21-20 as the game was tied at 35-35 at halftime. St. Thomas outscored Centenary 18-12 in the third quarter and 22-19 in the final period to seal the win.

Centenary shot 37.5 % (24-64) from the floor for the game, 26.7 % (4-15) from beyond the arc, and finished 14-20 from the free throw line for 70 %. St. Thomas shot 42.3 % (22-52) overall, 38.5 % (5-13) from 3-point range, and shot an astounding 40 free throws, making 26 for 65 %. The Ladies won the rebounding battle, 41-35 and each team turned the ball over often, with the Ladies giving it away 27 times and the Celts 22.

The Ladies finished with 16 steals, nine assists, and a blocked shot while the Celts tallied 18 steals, 10 assists, and five blocked shots. Centenary finished with a 32-24 edge in points in the paint and St. Thomas wound up with 33 points off turnovers to the Ladies' 17. Centenary had 17 second-chance points to St. Thomas' six and St. Thomas had two fast break points while Centenary did not have any. The Celts' bench was instrumental in the win as they delivered 53 points to the Ladies' 33.

Freshman F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) led all scorers with a career-high 19 points on 8-15 shooting in 23 minutes. She was 3-4 at the free throw line with seven rebounds and a steal. Stokes reached double figures for the third time this season, all three times coming in conference play. Sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) was the only other Centenary player in double digits with 11. She reached double figures for the fifth time this season and played 26 minutes off the bench in a great all-around performance as she added six rebounds, four steals and two assists. She was 5-10 overall and 1-2 at the FT line.

Freshman G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.) scored eight in 18 minutes off the bench on 2-5 shooting and hit two treys in three attempts. She grabbed two rebounds and added a steal. Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) added six points and four rebounds with one assist on 2-6 shooting in 15 minutes and was 2-2 from the FT line.

Sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) and freshman G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) each scored five points. Jones had a team-high eight rebounds with two steals and an assist in 31 minutes. She was 2-5 overall and hit one trey. Plumber grabbed two rebounds and had a steal in 31 minutes. She was 1-9 overall, 1-3 from beyond the arc, and 2-4 at the FT line. Freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.), freshman G Jillian Peacock (West Monroe, La.), and freshman G Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.) each scored four points.

Two Celts reached double figures as Ce'Briaya Bell had 15 and Micala Hamilton scored 14. Taytum Poppe grabbed a team-high six rebounds and scored four points. Eleven players scored for the Celts of the 12 that played and eight scored five or more points.

Davis hit a trey to give the Ladies a 42-40 lead with 4:33 remaining in the third quarter but the Celts finished the period on a 13-5 run to take a 53-47 lead into the final 10 minutes. A layup by Bell at the 7:03 mark made it 63-51 Celts and the visitors were able to seal the win with timely baskets and clutch free throws in the final minutes.

The Ladies will remain at home to face the Colorado College Tigers on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
