Shreveport- The Centenary women's soccer team settled for a scoreless draw on Friday evening against Birmingham-Southern College after the Ladies and Panthers battled for 90 minutes in a non-conference contest at Mayo Field.
A nice crowd on Centenary Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night watched the two teams face off for the first time in over 20 years. The Ladies are now 1-4-1 and the Panthers' record stands at 2-1-3. Centenary is now 2-0-1 all-time against BSC with a pair of wins coming back in 2000 and 2001 prior to Friday's tie.
Junior GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) registered her second shutout of the season, third of her career, and second in a row after Tuesday's 1-0 blanking of Belhaven at home. Ersoff played all 90 minutes and made six key saves on Friday while Panthers' GK Grace Elsevier also went the distance and registered three saves.
Centenary finished with a slight edge (13-11) in shots and had four in the final minutes of the game as well as a pair of late corner kicks but could not cash in. Sophomore D/MF Kylie Zeller (Denham Springs, La.) took a corner kick with just over a minute remaining in the match and played a good ball. Senior D Haleigh Gangloff (Pearland, Texas) fired a header that was blocked by Elsevier. A last-chance shot by senior F/MF Daisy Acosta (Deer Park, Texas) went wide before the final horn.
The Panthers took four corners on the evening while the Ladies took two. The Ladies were whistled for just five fouls and the Panthers picked up just three. Seven Ladies, including Ersoff, played all 90 minutes and eight Panthers went the entirety of the match.
Centenary completes its weekend at home versus Millsaps College on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Ladies and Majors will meet for the 12th time as the Ladies hold a 9-2 advantage. The two teams last met in 2019, a 5-2 Ladies' win.
