Shreveport - The Centenary women's soccer team could not keep up with the Southwestern University Pirates on Sunday afternoon, falling 6-0, in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Mayo Field.
The Ladies (1-8-2, 0-2 SCAC) fell behind the Pirates (4-6-2, 1-0-1 SCAC) 4-0 at halftime and the visitors added a pair of late goals to claim the road win. Centenary fell to 1-3-2 at home this season and has lost four matches in a row overall following a 1-0 loss on Friday to Texas Lutheran University.
Centenary junior GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) was busy on Sunday as she made eight saves in her 90 minutes. Ersoff, who made a career-high 13 saves in Friday's match, now has 80 saves this season.
Southwestern played a pair of goalkeepers as Johnna Campbell started and picked up the win. She played the first half and did not record a save. Kalista Esquivel-Serna replaced her and played the entire second half and also did not record a save.
The Pirates finished with a 32-3 edge in shots and took eight corner kicks to none for the Ladies. The Ladies were whistled for 11 fouls and the Pirates picked up four.
Breana Trevino scored a pair of goals and Laren Gradt had a goal and two assists. Sydney Boswell added an unassisted goal, Abby Castelli scored a late goal in the 77th minute, and then Mia Morales scored just one minute after her, assisted by Jackie Powell. Samantha Hazen assisted on Gradt's goal and Meredith Lannan had an assist on Trevino's second goal.
Trevino made it 1-0 in the eighth minute for an early Pirates' lead and then the visitors scored three times in a span of 16 minutes to take a comfortable lead at the half.
The Ladies will play their next four matches on the road, all in conference play, beginning with a match at the University of Dallas (3-7-1, 1-1 SCAC) on Friday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m. in Irving, Texas.
