Ladies Fall to LeTourneau And ETBU On Tuesday

Marshall, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on the road on Tuesday, falling 3-1 to LeTourneau and 3-0 to East Texas Baptist.

The Ladies (9-10) dropped the match to the YellowJackets at Solheim Arena in Longview in the afternoon and then fell to the Tigers in an evening match inside Ornelas Gymnasium in Marshall. Centenary has now lost four in a row following a season-high six game winning streak.  LeTourneau improves to 7-5 with the win while ETBU is now 8-5.

LeTourneau took set one, 25-21, and then the Ladies tied the match with a 25-23 win in set two. The YellowJackets won a tightly-contested set three (26-24) before closing out the match four, 25-12. Senior OH Alyssa Davis (Leonard, Texas) had 18 digs and 13 kills along with an assist. Sophomore DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) matched Davis with 18 digs and added six assists.

Senior S Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) tallied a game-high 21 assists to go with 9 digs, two aces, and one kill. Senior MB Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) recorded a season-high 12 kills and added five digs and an assist. Freshman RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) posted 10 kills and a dig, and sophomore DS/L Tori Ligman (Bossier City, La.) had seven digs and an assist. Senior Lauren Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman MB Elizabeth Canady (League City, Texas) combined for 13 kills, four digs, and an ace. Sophomore S Regan Griffin (Arlington, Texas) posted 16 assists and three digs. The Ladies finished the match with 71 digs, 51 kills, and 46 assists.

ETBU claimed set one, 25-13, then won the second set 25-11 and closed out the match with a 25-15 win in set three.

Davis had six digs and three kills and Clarin-Jante posted eight assists and seven digs. St. Martin tallied eight digs and two kills and Proctor had seven digs. Junior MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) had four digs and four kills. Centenary posted 39 digs, 14 kills, and 13 assists.

Centenary returns to conference play this weekend as the Maroon and White play host to 10 matches over two days, Friday Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2, with SCAC rivals Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern, and Trinity coming to town.
