Ladies Earn Split on Friday As Alyssa Davis Reaches Individual Milestone

Shreveport– The Centenary volleyball team split a pair of matches on day one of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference crossover event on Friday at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (10-11, 1-3 SCAC) defeated Schreiner 3-1 in their opening match of the day and then fell 3-0 to nationally-ranked Trinity in their evening match. Schreiner fell to 1-8 and 0-4 in SCAC play while No. 3 Trinity improved to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in league action. 

Four more matches are on deck for Saturday, played in both the Gold Dome and the campus Fitness Center (FIT). Southwestern faces Schreiner at 10 a.m. to begin the day followed by Dallas versus Trinity at Noon, also in the Gold Dome. The Ladies face Southwestern at 2 p.m. in the Dome and Austin College and Schreiner square off in the final match of the weekend at 2 p.m. in the FIT.

Centenary senior OH Alyssa Davis (Leonard, Texas) made history in the Ladies' match versus Schreiner on Friday as she recorded 20 kills to reach and exceed 1,000 career kills. She entered play this weekend as the SCAC leader in kills with 211, averaging 4.06 per game. She was also seventh in digs with 188, averaging 3.62/game. Davis is currently second all-time in the division III era (2011-present) in kills and is just 146 behind career leader Desiree Frey who played from 2014-17. Davis finished the day with 27 kills, 25 digs, four aces, and an assist. 

Match one recap: Centenary 3 Schreiner 1

The Ladies took a back and forth and extremely exciting set, 30-28. Schreiner evened the match with a 25-22 victory in set two, but then the Maroon and White closed out the match with a 25-19 edge in set three and a clinching score in set four, 25-23.

Davis led the Ladies to the victory with her milestone performance, notching 20 kills and 15 digs. She added an assist and a pair of aces. It was her second match this season with at least 20 kills and at least 15 digs and was her 10th match this season with double digits in the same match in both categories. Sophomore DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) tallied a season-high 24 digs along with four assists and two aces. Freshman RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) had 15 kills and seven digs in a solid performance with a pair of assists.

Junior MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) posted 11 kills, six digs, and an assist. Senior MB Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) tallied six kills and a dig and senior Lauren Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) had six kills and four digs. Senior S Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) recorded a team0high 27 assists along with 10 digs and a kill. Sophomore MB/OH Robin Lemelle (Liberty, Texas) posted five digs and four kills and sophomore DS/L Tori Ligman (Bossier City, La.) added seven digs and a kill. Freshman Kiara Liedy (Sugar Land, Texas) had nine digs. Centenary finished the match with 89 digs and 66 kills along with 62 assists and four aces. The Ladies' hitting percentage in the first set was .271 and then was .239 in set three.

Match two recap: Trinity 3 Centenary 0

The No. 3-ranked Tigers swept the match with (25-17, 25-19, and 25-19) as the Ladies earned their Saturday split following the earlier win versus Schreiner. The loss was the first in the Gold Dome this season for the Ladies, as they fell to 6-1 on their home court.

Proctor posted 17 digs and Davis had 10. Clarin-Jante posted 12 assists, seven digs and three aces. Davis added seven kills and a pair of aces. The Ladies finished with 44 digs, 24 kills, 24 assists, and seven aces.
