Ladies Set To Play Host To SCAC Weekend Crossover

Shreveport– The Centenary volleyball team will play host to a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference crossover event this weekend as the Ladies welcome five fellow conference schools with matches beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday.

The weekend will feature 10 total matches on both Friday and Saturday, played in both the Gold Dome and the campus Fitness Center (FIT). Friday's opening matches feature the Austin College 'Roos versus the Trinity Tigers in the Gold Dome at 11 a.m. and Dallas versus Southwestern in the FIT at the same time. The Ladies are 5-0 at home this season and have yet to lose a single set, sweeping four-consecutive matches including one doubleheader.

The Ladies (9-10, 0-2 SCAC) will face the Schreiner Mountaineers (1-7, 0-3) at 1 p.m. in the Gold Dome in their first of three matches this weekend. The 'Roos then face the Southwestern Pirates at 3 p.m. in the Gold Dome and the final two matches of the day are the Ladies against Trinity (5 p.m. Gold Dome) and the University of Dallas Crusaders against Schreiner in the FIT at 5 p.m.

Saturday's schedule consists of four matches, three in the Gold Dome and one in the FIT. Southwestern faces Schreiner at 10 a.m. to begin the day followed by Dallas versus Trinity at Noon, also in the Gold Dome. The Ladies face Southwestern at 2 p.m. in the Dome and Austin College and Schreiner square off in the final match of the weekend at 2 p.m. in the FIT.

All seven matches held in the Gold Dome will feature both live stats and live video. The three matches in the FIT will not have live video but will have live stats.

2021 SCAC Divisional Volleyball Tournament

Centenary dropped a pair of non-conference matches on the road on Tuesday, falling 3-1 to LeTourneau and 3-0 to East Texas Baptist. The Ladies have now lost four in a row following a season-high six game winning streak.  LeTourneau took set one, 25-21, and then the Ladies tied the match with a 25-23 win in set two. The YellowJackets won a tightly-contested set three (26-24) before closing out the match four, 25-12. The Ladies opened SCAC play last weekend in Irving, Texas as they fell to Dallas 3-0 and Austin College 3-1.

Senior OH Alyssa Davis (Leonard, Texas) had 18 digs and 13 kills along with an assist. Sophomore DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) matched Davis with 18 digs and added six assists. Senior S Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) tallied a game-high 21 assists to go with 9 digs, two aces, and one kill. Senior MB Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) recorded a season-high 12 kills and added five digs and an assist.

Freshman RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) posted 10 kills and a dig, and sophomore DS/L Tori Ligman (Bossier City, La.) had seven digs and an assist. Senior Lauren Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman MB Elizabeth Canady (League City, Texas) combined for 13 kills, four digs, and an ace. Sophomore S Regan Griffin (Arlington, Texas) posted 16 assists and three digs. The Ladies finished the match with 71 digs, 51 kills, and 46 assists.

ETBU claimed set one, 25-13, then won the second set 25-11 and closed out the match with a 25-15 win in set three.

Davis had six digs and three kills and Clarin-Jante posted eight assists and seven digs. St. Martin tallied eight digs and two kills and Proctor had seven digs. Junior MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) had four digs and four kills. Centenary posted 39 digs, 14 kills, and 13 assists.

Davis enters play this weekend as the SCAC leader in kills with 211 and is averaging 4.06 per game. She is also seventh in digs with 188 and is averaging 3.62/game. She is also just 10 kills shy of 1,000 for her career and can reach the impressive milestone in the Ladies' match versus Schreiner on Friday afternoon. Davis is currently second all-time in the division III era (2011-present) in kills and is just 166 behind career leader Desiree Frey who played from 2014-17.

Clarin-Jante is currently fifth in the conference in assists with 303, averaging 5.83/game. She has also tallied 125 digs this season. Ligman is having a solid season with 141 digs, 14 aces, and 14 assists. St. Martin is enjoying a fantastic rookie season as she has recorded 112 kills and 71 digs. Proctor has 148 digs, 29 assists, and seven aces.
