Ladies Fall to Colorado College And Dallas On Final Day Of Season

Seguin, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Colorado College and Dallas on Sunday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference divisional as the Ladies completed their 2021 season at the Tostengard Activity Center.

Centenary finishes the season 15-22 overall and 2-14 in conference play. The Ladies lost a pair of matches on Saturday to St. Thomas and host Texas Lutheran. The Ladies were swept in the first match on Sunday to the Tigers (25-20, 25-14, 15-16) and then Dallas earned a 3-1 win in match two. The Crusaders won the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-13 but the Ladies sent the match to a fourth set by winning the third set, 25-22, but then Dallas clinched the match, 25-20, in set four.

The Ladies recorded 38 digs, 28 kills, 27 assists, and an ace against the Tigers. Senior S Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) recorded a game-high 25 assists and added eight digs. Freshman RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) turned in a solid performance with 10 digs and eight kills. Sophomore DS/L Tori Ligman (Bossier City, La.) tallied eight digs, two assists, and an ace.

Senior MB Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) posted six kills, junior DS Mariah Martinez (San Antonio, Texas) tallied six digs and a kill, freshman RS Aubrey Salazar (San Antonio, Texas) recorded five kills, and fellow freshman Elizabeth Canady (League City, Texas) had five kills and a dig.

Centenary posted an impressive 86 digs, 42 kills, and 34 assists. The 86 digs were the fourth-most in a match for the Ladies this season and just three shy of the season record of 89 against Schreiner back on Oct. 1. Centenary topped 80 digs in a match four times this season.

Clarin-Jante had 30 assists, 19 digs, and a kill, sophomore MB/OH Robin Lemelle (Liberty, Texas) had 10 digs and a kill and Canady posted kills. Epley recorded 14 kills, senior OH Lauren Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) tallied 18 digs, three kills, and a pair of assists, and Ligman recorded 21 digs and an assist.St. Martin had her second-consecutive productive match with 16 digs and five kills and Salazar posted eight kills, two digs, and one assist.

The All-SCAC team will be announced soon and the Ladies are hopeful to be represented on the squad. Injured senior OH Alyssa Davis (Leonard, Texas), Clarin-Jante, and sophomore DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) are all ranked in the top 10 in the SCAC in individual statistical categories. The Ladies finished 9-2 at home this season with an impressive eight sweeps and went 13-8 against non-conference competition.
