Lawrenceville, Ga. – Senior outfielder Cody Crowder (Shepherd, Texas) and senior right-handed pitcher Matthew Devillier (Lake Charles, La.) swept the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball individual awards on Monday, it was announced by the league office.
Crowder was named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week while Devillier earned SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors for games played from Saturday, February 1 through Sunday, February 9.
Crowder led the Gents to three wins over the weekend to open the season as he batted .400 (4-10) with three home runs, six RBI, six runs scored, and three walks. He hit two home runs in a 12-5 victory over the East Texas Baptist Tigers in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday. Centenary opened its season with a 5-3 win on Friday against ETBU on the road, a game in which Crowder also homered, and then the Gents blanked the Tigers 7-0 in game one of the DH at Shehee Stadium.
Devillier was superb in his season debut for the Gents as he tossed a complete-game shutout against the Tigers on Saturday. Devillier went seven innings and allowed just one hit with two walks and four strikeouts. He threw 85 pitches, 56 for strikes, and faced just 25 batters in his seven innings of work.
Centenary (3-0) was the only conference team to make it through the first week unscathed as the Gents sit alone atop the SCAC standings after the first weekend of play. The Gents next face Louisiana College in a non-conference game on Friday, Feb. 14 at 4 p.m. in Pineville. Centenary will then host Louisiana College a day later in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 and 5 p.m. Centenary is on the road for eight games until returning home to play host to Trinity for a three-game series (Feb. 13-14) to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
