Baseball To Face Louisiana College Monday In Makeup Game

Pineville, La. – The Centenary baseball team will face the Louisiana College Wildcats in a non-conference game on Monday evening at Billy Allgood Field at Legacy Stadium with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.

Monday's contest is a makeup for an originally scheduled date of Feb. 14 that was postponed due to inclement weather. Live stats and live video are available for the game at www.lcwildcats.net.

The Gents (9-4) were last week after finishing up a five-game road trip to California with a 10-7 non-conference victory over the University of La Verne Leopards in eight innings on March 1. Centenary finished 2-3 overall on the week-long trip, falling to Cal Lutheran and Occidental and splitting a doubleheader with Whittier before the win over La Verne. The Gents have scored double digits runs five times this season including twice on the recent road trip.

Centenary and Louisiana College (7-7) will be meeting for the third time this season. The teams split a doubleheader at Mayo Field in Shreveport back on Feb. 15 with the Gents taking game one, 3-1, and the Wildcats earning an 11-7 win in game two. LC defeated McMurry University by a score of 11-4 at home on Sunday.

Senior right fielder Cody Crowder (Shepherd, Texas) has been the leader of the Gents' offense through the first 13 games this season. Crowder leads the team in RBI (18), home runs (4),  slugging percentage (.722), tied for first in doubles (4), and second on the team in batting average (.389), and third in on base percentage (.459). Crowder ranks in the top five in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in batting average, slugging percentage, RBI, hits, home runs, and total bases. Crowder collected a triple on the California trip, the 10th of his career which tied his with former teammate Aaron Quintanilla (2014-17) for the most triples in program history.

Junior infielder Chris Haggard (Lake Charles, La.) and junior Preston Ludwick (Pflugerville, Texas) have combined for 35 hits, 17 RBI, two home runs and 29 runs scored. Ludwick's 10 RBI are third-best on the team behind Crowder's 18 and the 12 from redshirt freshman Ben Bridges (Beckville, Texas).

Senior right-hander Matthew Devillier (Lake Charles, La.) leads the Gents' pitching staff with a super 2.08 ERA, fifth-best in the league. He is 3-1 on the season with a pair of complete games. He has walked just nine and struck out 21 batters in 26 innings pitched. Junior left hander Connor Lee (Sugar Land, Texas) is 1-0 on the season with a 2.48 ERA, eighth-lowest in the SCAC. Lee and Devillier rank in the top 10 in four different statistical categories in the conference.

The Gents open SCAC play at home March 13-14 against Trinity for a three-game series. A link to the complete 2020 schedule can be found here: www.gocentenary.com/sports/bsb/2019-20/schedule
