The Gents (1-3-3) tied LeTourneau 1-1 on Sunday night at home while the War Hawks (1-4-1) lost 4-0 at home to Texas Lutheran on Sunday in their most recent match. The Gents will be facing McMurry for the first time in program history on Friday.
Centenary and LeTourneau battled for 90 minutes on a humid evening in a competitive non-conference contest between two schools separated by just an hour. All three of Centenary's ties this season have come at home and Sunday was its second in a row after playing ETBU to a scoreless draw on Sept. 16. With three matches ending in a tie so far this season, the Maroon and White have matched the single season record for most ties in a season in the D3 era (2011-present) shared by the 2014 and 2017 teams.
Gents' senior goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) played all 90 minutes and made a season-high six saves. Borchalli, the D3 era leader in shutouts in a career (14) has three this season and has made 18 saves. Centenary senior MF Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas) continued his scoring barrage of late as he netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season and ninth of his career. Petreas is the team leader in goals and points (10) and tied for the team lead in assists (2). He is now tied for fifth all-time in the current division III era (2011-present) in both goals (9) and points (21). Sophomore MF Brennan Amato (Denham Springs, La.) is tied for the team lead in assists with Petreas.
Centenary is 0-3 on the road this season with losses to LaGrange (4-0), Huntingdon (4-2), and Belhaven (3-2). The Gents will wrap up the weekend with another non-conference match versus The University of Texas at Dallas on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Richardson, Texas. The Comets earned a 1-0 win over the Gents in Shreveport last season.
The Gents will be back on the road for three matches to begin Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, starting with a contest at Colorado College on Oct. 2 followed by a pair of matches the following weekend at Texas Lutheran (Oct. 7) and Southwestern (Oct. 9).
