Suwanee, Ga. – The Centenary men's soccer program landed four players on the 2022 All-SCAC Men's Soccer Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Senior MF Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas), senior GK Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.), freshman F Aaron Myers (Plano, Texas) and freshman D Mackenzie Soul (Shreveport, La.) earned spots for the Gents on this year's team. Petreas was named to the Second Team, Borchalli earned Honorable-Mention honors, and Soul and Myers each earned spots on the All-Freshman Team.
The four all-conference selections are the Gents' most since joining the SCAC prior to the 2012 season as the previous mark was three in 2020. Myers and Soul join their teammate, sophomore F Dylan Allred (Lafayette, La.) as the only players to be named to the SCAC All-Freshman Team in program history. Centenary placed at least two players on the All-SCAC team for the sixth time.
Petreas earned all-conference honors for the third time in his stellar career while Borchalli was honored for the second time. Both finished their careers as two of the most decorated and accomplished players in the division III era (2011-present) in program history. Borchalli was also named Honorable Mention as a sophomore in 2019 and Petreas earned Second team honors as a sophomore in 2020 and Honorable Mention recognition as a junior last season.
Petreas ends his time with the Gents ranked second in career goals (12), tied for third in assists (6), second in points (30), first in shots (93), and tied for third in game-winning goals (3). He started all 59 matches that he played in and scored seven goals this past season – tied for second-most in a single-season in the D3 era. He also had five assists, 19 points, and a pair of game-winning goals which all rank in the top five for a single season. Petreas was honored as the SCAC Male Student Athlete of the Week last month as he was recognized for his efforts off the field in the Shreveport-Bossier community. The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.
Borchalli finishes his superb Gents' career as the D3 era leader in career shutouts (14) and saves (415) and set a single-match record for saves with 17 on Oct. 23 at home versus Trinity – appropriately occurring on his Senior Day. Borchalli held the previous record of 16 saves, set on Oct. 7, 2018, also against Trinity. He finished his career with a .750 save % and played in 72 matches, starting 70. Both Borchalli and Petreas have been named to the SCAC Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll every year during their careers.
Myers had a memorable collegiate debut this past season as he scored a pair of goals in Centenary's season-opening 5-0 win at home over Dallas Christian on Sept. 1. He became just the 12th Centenary player in the D3 era to score two goals in a game and finished the season with four goals (tied for second on the team) and eight points while playing in 11 matches and making five starts. His other two goals came on Sept. 23 against McMurry and Oct. 21 at home versus Schreiner
Soul started all 15 matches that he played in and blossomed into one of the conference's top defenders as a rookie and scored one goal – on Sept. 25 against Texas-Dallas. Soul was one of the leaders of a Gents' back line that recorded four shutouts and held their opponents to two goals or less eight times during the season.
