Senior MF Jaron Petreas continued his impressive season with a goal and an assist in Friday's win.

Shreveport- The Centenary men's soccer team made the most of its first appearance on its home turf in nearly a month on Friday evening as the Gents recorded a 2-0 shutout victory over the University of Dallas Crusaders at Mayo Field.

The Gents (2-6-5, 1-3 SCAC) were playing at home for the first time since a 1-1 tie against LeTourneau on Sept. 18. Centenary snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday in which the Maroon and White were outscored 10-0. The Crusaders fell to 2-8-2 overall and 0-4 in league play with the loss.

Centenary, now 2-0-3 at home this season, jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over six minutes into action as senior MF Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas) found the net off the assist from sophomore MF Brennan Amato (Denham Springs, La.). The goal was Petreas' team-best sixth this season and third in the last seven matches.

The Gents held that one-goal advantage at halftime and then added their second score of the match in the 65th minute as Amato connected on an indirect free kick off the assist from Petreas for a 2-0 lead. The sophomore scored for the first time this season and third time in his young career and picked up his third assist, good for second on the team behind Petreas.

Petreas, with a team-best five assists, now has 17 points this season as he entered the evening ranked in the top four in the conference in assists, goals, and points. The stellar senior is now second all-time in the division III era (2011-present) in program history in goals (11), tied for third in assists (6), second in points (28), and tied for third in game-winning goals (3) after adding one more on Friday.

Gents' senior goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) started and played all 90 minutes and played an outstanding match, recording a season-best 11 saves. The veteran now has 383 career saves and needs just 22 more to become the D3-era all-time leader. He also notched his 14th-career shutout as he continues to add to his total as the all-time leader in the category.

Both teams were aggressive as the Gents took 21 shots to 20 for the Crusaders. Dallas took six corner kicks to the Gents' two and 16 fouls were called and six yellow cards were issues. Dallas played a pair of GK's as Anthony Gonzalez started and suffered the loss as he allowed Petreas' goal and made two saves. Uday Agarwal played the second half, allowing one goal, and recorded three saves.

The Gents will face Austin College on Sunday at Noon on a special afternoon at Mayo Field as it is "Alumni Day" and the 2020-21 SCAC Championship team will be recognized before the match and a banner will be presented and hung at Mayo Field.
