Shreveport – The Centenary men’s basketball team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Gents battled the LSUS Pilots, their nationally-ranked crosstown foe from the NAIA step for step on Wednesday evening at home in an exhibition match before falling 67-64 in preparation for the 2023-24 season.

The Gents started out the game red hot, jumping out to a 15-2 lead and led 33-29 at halftime. The Pilots rallied in the second half and led by 10 points with just 58 seconds remaining in the game, but the Maroon and White did not quit and cut their deficit to just two points with 22 seconds left before falling by three.

Centenary was impressive on offense, connecting on 23-54 shots from the floor for 42.6 % and went 8-23 from beyond the arc for 34.8 % and 10-15 from the free throw line for 66.7 %.
