Shreveport – The Centenary men's basketball team came up short, 67-61, to the Texas College Steers on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference contest played at the Dock on the campus of LSUS.

The Gents (3-2) and Steers met for the second time this season after Centenary recorded an 89-72 win over Texas College at the Gold Dome on Nov. 8. Tuesday's game was considered a home game for the Steers.

Texas College took a 36-29 lead at the half and despite being outscored by a point (32-31) in the second half, was able to secure the six-point win as the Steers finished 46.9 % (23-49) from the field for the game. They went 7-18 from beyond the arc for 38.9 % and a strong 87.5 % (14-16) at the free throw line. The Gents went 36.2 % (21-58) from the floor for the game, 35 % (7-20) from beyond the arc, and 12-19 from the FT line for 63.2 %.

Sophomore G Dalyn Davis (Natchitoches, La.) scored 16 points for the second day in a row, tying his season and career single-game high, to lead the Gents. Senior F Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) scored 10 and was the only other Centenary player to reach double figures. Senior G AJ Hall (Thibodaux, La.) scored eight and the Gents got seven points each from sophomore G Quentin Beverly (Katy, Texas) and freshman F Khristian Wilkerson (Killeen, Texas).

Tim Denton's 22 points led all scorers and he was one of was one of two Steers to reach double figures, joined by Nagee Jones who had 15. Qyrique Dabon had eight, TJ Wood scored seven, and both Domonique Perry and Kaleb Parks scored six.

Davis was 5-9 from the floor in 28 minutes off the bench and finished 5-6 from the FT line with one trey. He grabbed a team-high five rebounds and added a steal. Thomas played 22 minutes and was 4-8 from the floor, 1-3 from beyond the arc, and 2-3 from the FT line. He grabbed four rebounds and had two assists and two steals. Hall was 3-6 overall, 1-3 from beyond the arc, and 1-2 at the FT line with an assist and a rebound in 19 minutes.

Beverly played 25 minutes and was 2-7 from the floor, 2-5 from 3-point range, and 1-1 at the FT line with two rebounds. Wilkerson played just seven minutes but collected four rebounds and was 3-5 from the floor and hit one trey in three attempts. Senior G Jalen Behr (Athens, Ga.) added five points in 12 minutes off the bench as he was 2-2 from the FT line and hit one trey. He grabbed three rebounds and had one assist. Junior F Jakobi Greenleaf (Houston, Texas) chipped in four points in 28 minutes as he went 2-4 at the FT line and had a rebound and a steal.

Freshman G Gerald Murage (Irving, Texas) had two points, three boards, and one assist in 34 minutes and freshman G Bakari Nelson (Evergreen Park, Ill.) had two points and a rebound in 10 minutes. Senior G Chrys Jackson (North Las Vegas, Nev.) played eight minutes and was held scoreless but he grabbed one rebound and tallied an assist while senior G Coby Harris (Lafayette, La.) also did not score but had one steal in six minutes.

The Gents won a close battle in points in the paint, 28-26, and scored 18 points off of the Steers' 15 turnovers while Texas College only scored nine points on the Gents' season-low seven turnovers.

Centenary scored eight second-chance points to six for Texas College, each team had three fast break points, and the Gents received 31 points from their bench while the Steers' reserves provided 16. Centenary lost the rebounding battle 37-30 and finished with six assists and five steals and did not block a shot while Texas College collected nine assists, three steals, and blocked four shots.

The Gents will hit the road this weekend as they will face the Millsaps College Majors on Sunday, Nov. 26 in Jackson, Miss for a non-conference contest set for 4 p.m. The Maroon and White then stay in Jackson as they will play the Belhaven University Blazers on Monday the 27th at 6 p.m.
