Gents Win, Ladies Fall to Warriors in Swimming Home Opener

SHREVEPORT, La. - Centenary swimming claimed 13 wins in their home opener Thursday night, October 5, against Hendrix as the Gents claimed a 120-66 win and the Ladies fell 114-60 to the Warriors Thursday night, October 5.

"Both the men and women swam well," explained assistant coach Kyle Joplin. "Due to illness, our numbers were down on the women's side. Jessi Jordan and Zach Harrison had great meets, winning both of their individual events."

Senior Zach Harrison claimed the 100-200 freestyle sweep while also taking a win as part of the 200 medley relay. Harrison finished 1-2 with freshman Blake Smith in the 100 freestyle with times of 48.12 and 51.91, respectively, while Harrison touched the wall in the 200 in 1:50.12.

The 200 medley relay quartet of Harrison, Smith, and seniors Mason Kay and Anthony McDonald took top honors with a time of 1:40.49.

On the Ladies side, sophomore Jessi Jordan won both the 200 IM (2:24.76) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.68). Rounding out with wins for the Ladies includes junior Rebecca Dunn in the 200 (2:12.50) and 500 (5:56.68) freestyles and senior Caitlyn Faulhaber in the 50 (26.55) and 100 (59.27) freestyles.

On the Gents side, Smith and senior Roberto Roig-Perez went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly with times of 54.37 and 56.89, respectively. Kay picked up victories by touching the wall in 23.25 in the 50 free and with Roig-Perez, junior Paul Ahluwalia, and sophomore Eddie Dyess in the 200 free relay, finishing with a time of 1:33.27.

Finally, sophomore Jordan St. Pierre (5:12.01), junior Harrison Folse (5:25.54), and freshman Chris Reese (5:25.93) took the top-3 spots in the 500 free.

The Centenary swimming teams return to action October 20-21, when they travel to the heart of Texas to battle Trinity Friday and Southwestern Saturday.
