Gents Swimming Third, Ladies Sixth at Austin College Invite

SHERMAN, Texas - The Centenary swimming teams began 2018 in the annual Austin College Invitational Saturday afternoon, January 6. The Gents finished third with 383 points, ahead of the host 'Roos, Simpson, and McMurry. The Ladies finished sixth with 186 points.

NCAA Division II Texas-Permian Basin won the invitational on both the men and women's side, finishing with 744 and 626 points, respectively.

For the Ladies, sophomore Jessica Jordan and junior Elena Ring finished second and third in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:13.93 and 1:16.33. The 400 medley relay team of senior Caitlyn Faulhaber, sophomore Ellen Atkinson, Ring, and Jordan touched the wall in third with a mark of 4:34.27.

On the Gents side, sophomore Jordan St. Pierre touched the wall in 10:50.13 to take second in the 1000 freestyle. He also took fourth, right behind sophomore teammate Eddie Dyess (5:16.41), in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:17.26. Senior Zachary Harrison took third in the 50 free with a time of 22.64.

In the relays for the Gents, the quartet of Dyess, Harrison, senior Anthony McDonald, and junior Blake Smith placed second in the 400 freestyle with a time of 3:22.52. The team of Dyess, McDonald, Harrison, and senior Roberto Roig-Perez took third in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:42.56.

Centenary swimming returns to action January 20 when it celebrates senior day against Austin College.
