Gents Face Trinity On Road To Open SCAC Play

San Antonio, Texas - The Centenary men's soccer team will begin Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday as the Gents are set to face the Trinity University Tigers at 6:30 p.m. at Paul McGinlay Soccer Field.

The Gents (3-4-1) are coming off a tough 2-0 loss last Sunday versus Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas as the Pirates scored a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of the match. Trinity enters Friday's match at 7-0 on the season following a 6-2 home win on Sept. 24 against Colorado College. The Gents and Tigers are meeting for the first time since the 2019 season when Trinity recorded a 2-0 win in San Antonio. Centenary and Southwestern battled to a scoreless tie for over 80 minutes until Skyler Frey found the net at the 83:21 mark of the match for a 1-0 lead after scoring off a deflected ball. Frey scored again just over two minutes later for a 2-0 lead and the final margin. Centenary fell 4-1 at Texas Lutheran on Friday but despite the two road losses last weekend, the Gents are still an impressive 14-7-3 in their last 24 matches.

Senior GK Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) played all 90 minutes versus the Pirates and had an impressive match as he made seven saves. The seven saves are a season high for Borchalli, one more than the six he recorded on Sept. 10 versus Ozarks at home. He currently ranks third in the SCAC in saves with 24 and seventh in goals against average (1.40). Fellow senior GK Patrick Riley (Baton Rouge, La.) is eighth in the league in saves (12) and junior MF Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas) and sophomore Michael Smith (Baton Rouge, La.) are sixth and seventh in the SCAC in shots.

The Gents will complete their first weekend in conference play on Sunday with a match in Kerrville, Texas versus Schreiner set for 3 p.m. Centenary's next home match will be Friday, Oct. 8 versus St. Thomas at 7:30 p.m.
