Shreveport - The Centenary men's soccer team begins a three-game homestand on Friday as the Gents face the Southwestern Pirates in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play in a match set for 5 p.m. at Mayo Field.
The Gents (3-8-1, 0-3 SCAC) aim to snap a seven-game losing streak against the Pirates (6-2-3, 1-1-1 SCAC). The teams will meet for the second time this season after Southwestern recorded a 2-0 win over the Gents on Sept. 26 in Georgetown, Texas. Centenary fell 3-1 to the LeTourneau YellowJackets on Sunday evening in a non-conference match in Longview, Texas. The Gents fell behind 2-0 at halftime and then each team scored a second-half goal for the final margin.
Gents senior GK Patrick Riley (Baton Rouge, La.) started and played all 90 minutes and recorded a save. The Maroon and White got on the board in the final minute of the match as freshman F Ron Masti (Houston, Texas) scored an unassisted goal, his first-career goal.
Senior GK Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) currently ranks in the top 10 in the conference in five different statistical categories. He is tied for second in shutouts with two, second in saves (38), fourth in saves per game (4.22), sixth in save percentage (.731), and seventh in goals against average (1.60). Junior MF Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas) is tied for sixth in the SCAC in shots with 26.
The Gents, who are an impressive 14-6-3 in their last 23 home matches, will face the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs on Sunday, Oct. 17 at Noon and finally Colorado College on Friday, Oct. 22 for their final home match of the regular season on Senior Night at 7 p.m.
