
Ladies Extend Season-Best Winning Streak To Four With Sweep Of Schreiner
The Centenary softball team swept a doubleheader over the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Saturday, winning game one by a score of 5-0 and taking game two, 5-1, to complete a three-game series sweep in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at the Centenary Softball Complex.
Shreveport - The Centenary softball team swept a doubleheader over the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Saturday, winning game one by a score of 5-0 and taking game two, 5-1, to complete a three-game series sweep in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at the Centenary Softball Complex.
The Ladies (12-14, 7-2 SCAC) blanked the Mountaineers (2-23, 1-8 SCAC) 8-0 in six innings in the series opener on Friday and are on a season-high four-game winning streak. Centenary is also off to its best start in conference play since beginning the 2019 campaign 8-0.

The Ladies finished with six hits and did not commit an error and junior Emma Shepherd (Athens, La.) tossed a complete-game shutout as she allowed just four hits in her impressive victory. She faced 27 batters, hitting one, and walked just two with seven strikeouts. She threw 107 pitches – 67 for strikes.
The Mountaineers managed just the four hits, committed two errors, walked twice, struck out seven times, and left six on base. Centenary walked four times, struck out three times, and left seven on base.
Celina Marchan started and took the loss for Schreiner as she allowed four runs, all earned, and four hits in her 4.1 innings of work with two BB and one K. She faced 21 batters and threw 61 pitches – 40 strikes. Amanda Pollock worked the final 1.2 innings and allowed one earned run and two hits with two BB and two K. She faced nine batters and threw 35 pitches (18 strikes).
Senior RF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) finished 2-4 with her first-career home run, an inside the parker, two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base for the Ladies as the top four hitters in the Ladies' order combined to go 4-12 with five RBI, a run scored, and a walk. Sophomore 3B River Boultinghouse (Saint Gabriel, La.) was 1-1 with a double, a run scored, a stolen base and a walk, sophomore SS Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) went 1-2 with an RBI and a walk, and senior 1B Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) finished 1-4 with an RBI.
Sophomore 2B Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) was 0-2 with a run scored, sophomore DP Abigail Hodgson (Georgetown, Texas) was 0-2 with a walk, and senior CF Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas) was 1-2 with a run scored.
Lindsey Hues had two of Schreiner's four hits, Cambryn Holloway had one and Laci Silva had the other. Kaylee Greenwood and Kendall Lippold each drew a walk.
Stokes' sac fly in the third made it 1-0 Ladies and Cox reached on a fielder's choice in the fifth to make it 2-0. Dominguez' RBI single later in the fifth made it 3-0 and sophomore C Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) brought Cox home with a sac fly later in the inning for a 4-0 lead. Cox' RBI single in the sixth capped the scoring and made it 5-0.

The Ladies finished with 10 hits, walked once, struck out twice, did not commit an error, and left seven on base. Schreiner had five hits, walked five times, struck out five times, also did not make an error, and left nine on base.
Sophomore P Riley Myers (Shreveport, La.) started in the circle for the Ladies and got the win as she went five innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. She faced 22 batters and threw 96 pitches – 56 for strikes. Sophomore P Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.) relieved her and went the final two innings as she blanked the Mountaineers on one hit. She walked two and did not record a strikeout as she threw one wild pitch and threw 19 of her 39 pitches for strikes.
Ky Kysak started in the circle for Schreiner and took the loss as she allowed four runs, all earned, on nine hits in 4.1 innings with a walk and two strikeouts. She faced 24 batters, hitting one, and threw 79 pitches – 51 for strikes. Isabella Gutierrez worked the final 1.2 innings and allowed one unearned run and one hit with no BB nor K's. She faced six batters and threw 10 pitches – six for strikes.
Cox continued her impressive day by finishing 2-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base and Stokes and Thrasher went a combined 4-7 with an RBI and a run scored. Dominguez was 1-4, Crow went 1-3 with a run, and freshman LF Janae Bland (Livingston, Texas) was 1-3 with a run. Junior DP Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) finished 1-2 with an RBI and a walk.
Cox brought Bland home on a sac fly in the second inning and Stokes had an RBI single to score Crow for a 2-0 lead. Cox's inside the park HR down the right-field line in the fourth made it 3-0. Schreiner got on the board in the fifth as 3B Yadira Lopez singled home SS Valerie Mares to make it 3-1 but Rivero's RBI single in the fifth made it 4-1 and Cox scored on a passed ball in the sixth to make it 5-1.
Lopez was 1-2 with an RBI and two walks, Mares went 1-3 with a run scored, Lindsey Hues was 1-4, and Laci Silva and Kaitlyn Olivares combined to go 2-6 with a BB.
