Ladies Swept In Saturday DH By Trinity
The Centenary softball team dropped a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader to the Trinity University Tigers on Saturday, falling 5-2 in game one and 8-7 in game two at the Centenary Softball Complex.
Shreveport- The Centenary softball team dropped a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader to the Trinity University Tigers on Saturday, falling 5-2 in game one and 8-7 in game two at the Centenary Softball Complex.
The Ladies (13-24, 8-12 SCAC) and Tigers (28-11, 16-4 SCAC) will finish the series on Sunday with a single game at Noon. Centenary will honor its 2024 senior class – IF Mackenzie Clark (Upland, Calif.), RF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.), and 1B Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) following Sunday's game.
Game one recap: Trinity 5 Centenary 2
The Tigers scored a run in the top of the first and added one more in the third for a 2-0 lead. The Ladies, though, responded with a pair in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. Trinity then broke the tie in the fifth with a run and scored two more in the sixth to secure the game one win.
Trinity hammered out 10 hits while Centenary managed just two. The Tigers walked five times, struck out four times, stole three bases, made two errors, and left nine on base. The Ladies walked four times, struck out five times, did not commit an error, and left seven on base.
Junior Emma Shepherd (Athens, La.) started in the circle for the Ladies and suffered the loss as she worked 5.2 innings and allowed five runs, all earned, on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts. She Faced 28 batters, hitting one, and threw 109 pitches – 71 for strikes. Sophomore P Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.) went the final 1.1 innings and allowed no runs on two hits with a BB and a K. She faced six batters and threw 23 pitches – 17 for strikes.
Jordan Arce got the win for the Tigers as she pitched 4.1 innings and allowed just a pair of unearned runs and no hits with four BB and five K. She faced 20 batters – hitting one and throwing a wild pitch, as she navigated a lot of traffic on the base paths but held the Ladies hitless. Heather Nugent relieved her and pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed no runs on two hits with no BB or K. She faced 10 batters and threw 40 pitches – 25 for strikes.
Hannah Boudreaux and Jordyn Williams combined to finish 4-5 with three RBI, three BB and a run scored and Samantha Tagawa was 1-2 with an RBI, two runs scored, a walk, and two stolen bases. Sydney Boudreaux finished 1-1 with an RBI and four other Tigers got one hit each.
Cox was 0-3 with a BB, sophomore SS Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) had one of the Ladies' two hits and drew a walk, senior 1B Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) walked twice and scored a run, and sophomore DP Abigail Hodgson (Georgetown, Texas) had Centenary's other hit. Sophomore 2B Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) was 0-3 with the Ladies' lone RBI and sophomore C Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) went 0-2 with a run scored.
Jordyn Williams and Hannah Boudreaux each had RBI doubles in the first three innings to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Crow reached on an error by Tigers' LF Marina Delaluna in the fourth that scored Dominguez and Thrasher to tie the game at 2-2. Hannah Boudreaux's RBI single made it 3-2 in the fifth and Tagawa hit a sac fly to make it 4-2 in the sixth and Sydney Boudreaux followed with an RBI single to make it 5-2.

Game two was a wild affair as the teams combined for 15 runs, 23 hits, five errors, five walks, and left 16 on base. The Ladies held a 5-1 lead after two innings but could not make it stand as the Tigers scored seven times over the final four innings to claim the comeback win and sweep the DH.
Sophomore P Riley Myers (Shreveport, La.) started in the circle for the Ladies and worked the first 3.2 innings as she allowed four runs, none earned, and five hits with three BB and three K. She faced 21 batters and three 114 pitches (72 strikes). Roach relieved her and took the loss as she faced five batters as she threw 22 pitches (11 strikes) and one wild pitch. Hodgson came in for Roach and went the final 2.2 innings and allowed two unearned runs and three hits with no BB and one K. She faced 11 batters and threw 33 pitches (23 strikes).
Josephine Koelewyn started for Trinity and lasted only 0.2 innings as she allowed two earned runs and four hits with no BB or K. She faced only six batters and threw 26 pitches – 19 for strikes. Megan Kriechbaum pitched an inning and allowed three runs, all earned, and four hits with no BB or K and faced seven batters. She threw a wild pitch and of her 15 pitches, nine were for strikes. Nugent, as she did in game one, came on in late relief as she worked the final 5.1 innings and picked up the win. She allowed two runs, both earned, and six hits with no BB and one K. She faced 23 batters and threw 55 pitches – 41 for strikes.
Six Centenary players recorded multi-hit games led by a 3-4 game from Dominguez as she had an RBI double. Cox was 2-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base, Stokes was 2-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, and an RBI and Hodgson finished 2-4 with two RBI.
Crow went 2-4 with a double and a run scored, Thrasher was 1-4 with a run scored, and senior CF Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas) was 0-4 but had an RBI groundout and sophomore 3B Morgan Dawson (Natchitoches, La.) was 2-4 with an RBI.
Tagawa was 3-4 with four RBI, a walk, and a run scored at the top of the Tigers' lineup and SS Angela Baltzell was 2-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Peyton Bowser went 1-3 with a walk and two runs scored and three other Tigers collected one hit each.
Stokes' double and an RBI groundout by Hodgson in the first made it 2-0 Ladies and after Trinity scored once in the top of the second, RBI singles in the bottom half of the inning by Stokes and Hodgson made it a 4-1 game. Dominguez doubled home Thrasher in the second to make it 5-1.
Trinity then responded with five-straight runs over the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-5 lead. Then two more runs in the seventh made it an 8-5 game in favor of the Tigers.
Hodgson singled to lead off the Ladies' seventh and freshman Noelle Sandmann (Huntsville, Texas) pinch ran for her. Dominguez then lined out to second but Crow doubled to put runners at second and third with only one out. Dawson then singled to score Sandmann and advanced to second on the throw as Crow moved to third. Stout then brought Crow home and make it 8-7 with two outs. Nugent, though, retired freshman LF Janae Bland (Livingston, Texas) on a fly out to end the game.
