Ladies Blank Wiley 1-0 On Sunday For First Win Of Season

Shreveport - The Centenary women's soccer team recorded its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 shutout over the Wiley University Wildcats in a non-conference contest as sophomore MF Shona Carlton (Ponchatoula, La.) scored her first-career goal on a warm day at Atkins Field.

The Ladies (1-4-1) and Wildcats (1-6) were locked in a scoreless battle until Carlton found the net in the 80^th minute following a corner kick from sophomore MF Sarah Crenshaw (Alexandria, La.). Carlton gained control of the ball once Crenshaw sent it in from the corner closest to the Ladies' bench and stuck it in the back of the net past Wiley GK Destiny Allison (seven saves in 90 minutes) for the 1-0 lead.

Centenary's stingy defense made that score hold up for the next 10 minutes as the Maroon and White rebounded from a 1-0 loss to LeTourneau University on Saturday evening in their home opener. Centenary sophomore GK/MF Zoe Keller (Waggaman, La.) went the distance for the Ladies in the goal on Sunday in and recorded her first-career shutout. She made four saves in her 90 minutes after recording seven saves against LeTourneau on Saturday.

The shutout was the Ladies' first since a 1-0 win at home last season over Belhaven University. The Ladies finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots and eight were on goal. Wiley took four corner kicks and Centenary two and the teams were whistled for a combined 17 fouls – 10 by the Ladies and seven by the Wildcats. Wiley picked up three yellow cards and one red card which resulted in an ejection.

The Ladies and Wildcats will meet in a rematch on Wednesday afternoon in Marshall, Texas in a match set for 4 p.m. at Pemberton Field.
