Gents Earn Draw Versus Sul Ross State At Home Saturday

Shreveport - The Centenary men's soccer team earned a 0-0 tie versus the Sul Ross State University Lobos on Saturday evening at Mayo Field in the first meeting between the two programs.

The Gents (1-0-1) have still not allowed a goal this season after opening their 2022 slate on Thursday with an impressive 5-0 victory over the Dallas Christian College Crusaders in a non-conference contest at home. The Lobos (0-1-1) rebounded from a 5-0 loss at Belhaven in their season opener on Thursday.

The aggressive Gents finished with a 16-7 advantage in shots and had multiple shots on goal but could not convert. Centenary also held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Senior GK Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) pitched his second-straight shutout this season and the 13th of his career. He played all 90 minutes and made three saves. Sul Ross GK Julian Sandoval also played the entire match and recorded three saves of his own. Six Gents in all, including Borchalli, played all 90 minutes while five Lobos did so. The match featured 31 fouls and six yellow cards, three on each side.

The Gents will be back in action next weekend for a pair of road matches at LaGrange (Sept. 9) and Huntingdon (Sept. 11).
