Gents Fall 2-0 At Southwestern On Sunday

Georgetown, Texas - The Centenary men's soccer team was blanked 2-0 on Sunday afternoon by the Southwestern University Pirates in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Varsity Field.

The Gents, who fell 5-0 on Friday night to the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in Seguin, are now 1-6-5 overall and 0-3 in league play while the Pirates improved to 5-4-2 overall and 3-1 in SCAC play.

Southwestern held a 1-0 lead at halftime after Michael Grimm scored off an assist from Luca Cipleu in the 20th minute. Carr Panetta, assisted by Grimm, scored at the 77:19 mark to make it a 2-0 Pirates' advantage. The Pirates finished with a decisive advantage (17-3) in shots, and took six corner kicks to none for the Gents. There were 16 fouls called, nine on Southwestern and seven on Centenary, and six cards were issues – one red and five yellows.

Gents' senior goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) started and played all 90 minutes as he allowed both goals and made five saves. Pirates' GK Jack Viles also went the distance and did not allow a goal nor record a save. Six Gents played all 90 minutes in the match while two Pirates played the entirety.

Centenary, having played five-straight contests away from home, will be back at Mayo Field for four-consecutive home matches in SCAC play beginning Friday, Oct. 14 versus the University of Dallas at 7 p.m.
