Shreveport- The Centenary men's soccer team recorded its sixth tie of the season on Friday evening as the Gents finished in a 1-1 draw against the Schreiner University Mountaineers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Mayo Field.

The Gents are now 2-7-6 overall and 1-4-1 in SCAC play while the Mountaineers are 4-9-1 and 2-3-1 in SCAC action. Four of Centenary's six ties this season have come at home as the Maroon and White are now 2-1-4 at Mayo Field.

The teams battled through a scoreless first half in which the Gents took eight shots to the Mountaineers' five and each squad took one corner kick. Schreiner finally broke the ice in the 64th minute as MF Iseah Hernandez launched a long ball toward the goal that Gents' senior goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) knocked down but then mishandled and bobbled it as it went past him into the net for a fortunate goal for the Mountaineers as it appeared Borchalli's vision was blocked by the small crowd of players several yards away from him.

Just over eight minutes later, the Gents answered as freshman F Aaron Myers (Plano, Texas) tied the match at 1-1 off of a beautiful assist from freshman MF Jade Hiller (Frisco, Texas). Hiller sent a corner kick into the box that was headed back out by a Schreiner defender and corralled by Centenary junior F/MF Michael Smith (Baton Rouge, La.) who passed it to Hiller who then lofted a beautiful ball to the left side of the goal and Myers headed it into the net past Schreiner GK Kameryn Roehrig for his fourth goal of the season, tying him for second on the team while Hiller now has two assists in his rookie season.

Centenary finished with a 17-14 advantage in shots and took five corner kicks to Schreiner's three. Schreiner was whistled for 12 fouls and Centenary four. Borchalli made four saves in his 90 minutes of work, including a critical one in the final minutes in which he used his athleticism to knock a ball down and remain on the ground with control to keep the match tied. Roehrig recorded eight saves and also went the distance. Borchalli needs just 13 more saves to become the all-time leader in the division III era (2011-present) in program history. He is currently the D3-era leader in career shutouts with 14.

Centenary wraps up the weekend with another conference contest on Sunday, versus Trinity University (7-4-2, 5-1-0 SCAC) at Noon for Senior Day. Five seniors – Borchalli, MF David Barbera (Gonzales, La.), MF Xavier Noyola-Ramirez (College Station, Texas), D Marco Basteris (Katy, Texas), and senior MF Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas) will be honored in a pregame ceremony beginning at 11:45 a.m.

The Gents then finish the regular season at St. Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Houston.
