Gents Fall 4-2 At Huntingdon On Saturday

Montgomery, Ala. - The Centenary men's soccer team fell 4-2 to the Huntingdon College Hawks on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference contest at the Samford Soccer Complex.

The Gents (1-2-1) lost 4-0 to the LaGrange College Panthers on Friday to go winless on their first road trip of the season. The Hawks improved to 1-2-0 with Saturday's win.

Huntingdon took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of the first half as Thad Lievens found the net off an assist from Tate Reynolds. The Hawks' lead lasted until early in the second half as Taylor Bradley scored an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage.

Sophomore F Ron Masti (Houston, Texas) got the Gents on the board with a goal at the 73-minute mark off an assist from senior MF Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas) to cut the Hawks' lead to 2-1, the third goal of Masti's young career. Just over four minutes later, Carlos Melendez scored an unassisted goal to give Hawks a 3-1 lead. Petreas then found the net 16 seconds later to again get the Gents within a goal at 3-2. Three minutes later Davis Edwards scored an unassisted goal to make it 4-2.  

Gents' senior GK Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) played all 90 minutes and made two saves. The Hawks played a pair of goalkeepers, as Braden Ross started and played the first 52:38, allowing two goals and making two saves. Zack Moenter relieved Ross and played the final 37:22 and made one save.

Centenary finished with a decisive 21-11 advantage in shots and took 13 corner kicks to just two for the Hawks. Huntingdon was whistled for seven fouls, Centenary four, and five yellow and one red card were issued.

The Gents are next in action on Tuesday, Sept. 13 for a non-conference contest at Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss. in a match set for 6 p.m.
