Ladies Set To Face Mississippi University for Women In Saturday Doubleheader

Shreveport- The Centenary softball team takes a break from Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday as the Ladies face the Mississippi University for Women (The W) Owls in a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies (4-10) aim to snap a seven-game losing streak after suffering a sweep last weekend at Austin College. Centenary lost to Arlington Baptist at home on March 1 and then was swept by Trinity at home March 4-5. The Owls (9-9) enter Saturday's action having won three in a row and the teams will meet for the first time since the 2020 season when they split a doubleheader in Columbus, Miss.

Centenary leads the conference in team batting average (.336) and ranks in the top five in hits, doubles, triples, home runs, runs scored, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, total bases, and stolen bases. Despite its current losing streak, the Maroon and White have averaged over four runs a game and has scored five or more runs three times.

Three Ladies - sophomore OF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.), junior Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.), and freshman 3B Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) are all hitting above .400 this season to lead the Centenary offense and Patridge (fourth - .442) and Cox (seventh - .431) both rank in the top 10 on the conference in batting average. Cox ranks second in the league in runs scored (17) while Patridge is tied for seventh with 12. Senior C Erin Lewis (Leesville, La.) is tied for fourth in the conference in RBI (13) and is tied for the team lead in the category with Rivero.

Cox is the league leader in stolen bases (17) and has only been caught once. She has 22 hits, tied with Rivero for second on the team and just one behind the team leader Patridge, and leads the team in runs scored. Cox has two doubles, a triple, and seven RBI. Her on-base percentage is .491 and she is slugging .510. In 51 at-bats this season, she has walked and struck out the same number of times (five). Patridge has two doubles, two triples, six RBI, and four stolen bases. Her OBP is .482 and is slugging .558.

Rivero is off to a fantastic start to her rookie season as she has a team-high 53 at-bats, five doubles, and is tied with Lewis for the lead in RBI. She has an OBP of .426 and is slugging .566. She has scored eight runs and hit one homer. Lewis leads the team in home runs with three and has a team-high seven doubles and has scored nine runs. She has only struck out six times in 49 at-bats and has walked five times. Lewis is hitting .367 with a .436 OBP and is slugging a team-best .694.

Freshman Alyssa Akers (Maurice, La.) and sophomore Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) each have 10 hits this season, Akers is hitting .313 and Dominguez is at .278. Akers has shown good patience with five walks and five strikeouts in 32 at-bats. Dominguez has seven RBI and four doubles with a .333 OBP and is slugging .389. Freshman Kaitlyn Dickey (Church Point, La.) is another impressive Centenary freshman as she is hitting .333 with 13 hits and six RBI with a .372 OBP and slugging percentage of .436.

Freshman Katelyn Moss (Olive Branch, Miss.) leads the team in ERA (3.96) and is 2-2 with one complete game and one save. Fellow freshman P Anna Scarbock (Alexandria, La.) is next on the team in ERA (4.40) while senior P Ashley Hunter (Benton, La.) is 1-1 with a 5.92 ERA.

The Ladies have recorded 11 or more hits in a game eight times this season and have scored six or more runs in game six times. Centenary has also stolen multiple bases in a game seven times, and three or more four times, and four twice.
