Shreveport- The Centenary softball team will face the University of Dallas Crusaders in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at Noon and 2 p.m. at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies (6-10, 0-6 SCAC) are in search of their first conference win of the season this weekend against the Crusaders (5-17, 2-4 SCAC). The series wraps up on Sunday with a single game set for Noon. Dallas won two of three at home versus Southwestern and was swept at St. Thomas in its previous two conference series.

Centenary recorded a non-conference doubleheader sweep over the Mississippi University for Women (The W) Owls last Saturday, winning 3-0 and 4-3 at home. The Ladies are now 3-4 at home this season Dallas is 1-6 on the road this season.

Centenary freshman P Katelyn Moss (Olive Branch, Miss.) threw a complete-game shutout in game one of the DH last Saturday to improve to 3-2 on the season as the rookie lowered her team-best ERA to 3.31 and recorded her second complete game of the season. She scattered eight hits, walked one, and struck out a pair. Freshman DP Alyssa Akers (Maurice, La.) capped a 3-4 performance at the plate by driving in fellow freshman Viviano Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off win. Akers' three hits are a single-game season high and marked her fifth multi-hit performance.

Centenary, one of the top hitting teams in the conference this season, is batting .333 with an on-base percentage of .392 and is slugging .444. The Diamond Gents have scored 80 runs this season and are averaging five runs per game. Centenary has scored 10 or more runs twice this season and have 32 extra-base hits.

The Ladies recorded a three-game sweep over the Crusaders on the road last season, winning 8-0 in five innings, 7-2, and 4-1, and won two of three games at home in 2020. The three games two seasons ago were the only conference games the Ladies played before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. Centenary finished a perfect 6-0 versus Dallas in 2019 and 5-0 in 2018 as the Maroon and White have won 16 of the last 17 games between the two teams.

Centenary has stolen 27 bases this season and only been caught once. Sophomore OF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) leads the team with 19 and also leads the Ladies with a .429 batting average and ranks second with 24 hits. Junior Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) leads the team in hits with 25 and is second with a .424 batting average. Freshman 3B Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) is tied with Cox with 24 hits and Rivero is tied with senior C Erin Lewis (Leesville, La.) for the team lead in RBI with 14. Lewis is the team leader in both home runs (3) and doubles (8). Moss is the team leader in wins (3), innings pitched (42.1), and strikeouts (19). She has two complete games and one save.
