Ladies Fall To No. 5 Texas Lutheran In Series Finale

Seguin, Texas- The Centenary softball team dropped the series finale to No. 5 Texas Lutheran in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest by a score of 10-0 in five innings on Saturday at Ed Kruse Stadium.

The Ladies (9-13, 3-9 SCAC) dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader, falling 5-0 in game one and 6-3 in game two as the Bulldogs (26-4, 12-0 SCAC) swept the weekend series. Centenary entered the series riding a season-best five-game winning streak.

Centenary was held to just two hits and committed two errors, and struck out six times. Texas Lutheran finished with 11 hits, left six on base, and did not strike out. Freshman P Anna Scarbock (Alexandria, La.) suffered the loss for the Ladies as she fell to 2-9. She lasted just 1.2 innings and allowed six runs, four earned, and seven hits with a walk and no strikeouts. She threw 44 pitches, 23 strikes, and faced 14 batters.  

Ashlyn Strother (14-0) was the winner for the Bulldogs as she went four innings and allowed just one hit, one walk, and struck out five. She threw 61 pitches, 43 for strikes, and faced 14 batters. Sydney Ouellette pitched the final inning and allowed a hit and struck out one. Freshman UT Alyssa Akers (Maurice, La.) relieved Scarbock and went an inning as she allowed two earned runs and a hit with three walks and no strikeouts. She faced seven batters and threw 29 pitches, 12 for strikes. Freshman P Katelyn Moss (Olive Branch, Miss.) pitched the final 1.1 innings and allowed a pair of runs, both earned, on three hits with one home run. She did not walk or strike out anyone and threw 25 pitches, 16 for strikes, and faced seven batters.

Freshman 3B Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had one of the Ladies' two hits and drew a walk. Sophomore RF Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) singled in the fifth for Centenary's other hit. Four Bulldogs had two hits each and SS Faith Hernandez and CF Madison Johnson each had two RBI. TLU hit six doubles and a homer and stole seven bases.

Centenary will remain on the road next weekend as the Ladies face Southwestern University for a three-game SCAC series in Georgetown, Texas. The Ladies and Pirates will play a doubleheader on Saturday at Noon and 2 p.m. and wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday at Noon.
