Ladies Fall To Hendrix At Home On Sunday, 58-52

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team suffered a tough 58-52 loss to the Hendrix College Warriors on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (1-2) lost for the second-straight time after opening their season with a win as the Maroon and White dropped a 71-56 decision on Friday night at home to Louisiana Christian University. The Warriors improved to 1-1 on the season.

Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) led the Ladies with 15 points on 5-10 shooting overall and went 5-6 from the free throw line in 38 minutes. She grabbed six rebounds, four on the defensive end, and had one steal. Jones has reached double figures in all three of the Ladies' games this season. Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) scored 14 on 6-14 shooting and played all 40 minutes. She had a team-best eight rebounds with one assist and one steal and made a pair of three pointers. Tremie recorded the 10th double-digit scoring performance of her young career.

Junior guard Destini Powell (Minden, La.) added eight points in 24 minutes as she went 3-9 from the floor and had for rebounds. Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) scored five points off the bench in 12 minutes as she made two of her four attempts from the floor and had one trey. She also collected a pair of assists and a steal. Fellow freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) scored four off the bench in 12 minutes of action, going a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line and grabbed two board and a steal and an assist.

Junior forward Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) played 25 minutes and scored three points with two rebounds, two steals, and a block. Senior guard Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) played 32 minutes and scored one point along with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) played 10 minutes off the bench and did not score but she recorded three rebounds and an assist, and fellow freshman Katelyn Simon (Lafayette, La.) scored two off the bench.

Centenary shot 31.5 % (17-54) from the floor for the game and was an impressive 15-20 from the free throw line. The Maroon and White had eight assists, eight steals, and a block. The Warriors shot 34.4 % (22-64) overall and struggled at the line, making just 6 of 12 attempts. Hendrix outrebounded the Ladies, 48-36 and made eight three-point baskets compared to just three for Centenary. The Ladies turned the ball over 14 times and Hendrix coughed it up 15.

Madi Pierce scored a game-high 17 points in 30 minutes on 7-15 shooting. She made three treys and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double. Kennedi Burns joined her in double figures with 11 points in 31 minutes. She was 4-11 from the floor and had six rebounds, three assists, and a block. Jayla King added four points and 11 rebounds with a pair of steals in 26 minutes. The Warriors' bench added 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Centenary played its best offensive half of the young season in the first half on Sunday as the Maroon and White shot 42.3 % (11-26) from the floor and 3-6 from deep and made 9-12 free throw attempts but the second half was a different story. The Ladies made just 6-28 attempts and went 0-5 from beyond the arc. They were also outrebounded 30-13 after holding a slight edge (23-18) in the first 20 minutes. Hendrix struggled mightily shooting in the first half, making only 9 baskets on 32 attempts for 28.1 % but recovered well after halftime to go 13-32 (40.6 %). Each team picked up eight points off turnovers and Hendrix had the advantage in second-chance points, 14-8.

Centenary will hit the road on Tuesday to face Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. At 6 p.m. and then return home to play Belhaven on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m.
