Ladies Fall On Sunday At St. Thomas, 56-44

Houston – The Centenary women's basketball team dropped a 56-44 decision on Sunday to the St. Thomas Celts in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at the Jerabeck Center.

The Ladies (3-10, 1-4 SCAC) were back in action this weekend for the first time in almost three weeks and have now lost four in a row after falling 66-52 at Colorado College on Friday. St. Thomas improved to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

St. Thomas held a slight edge (27-24) at halftime after the Ladies got off to a hot start in the first 10 minutes, leading 15-9, before the Celts responded with an 18-9 advantage in the second period. St. Thomas extended the lead heading into the final 10 minutes, outscoring the Ladies again in the third quarter 18-9. The teams finished even (11-11) in the fourth quarter, but the 18-point advantage over the second and third periods was too much for Centenary to overcome.

Both teams struggled offensively as the Ladies shot just 31 % (18-58) overall from the floor while the Celts mustered only 32.4 % (23-71). Centenary made just one three-point basket all day, going 1-13, and St. Thomas was also cold from beyond the arc, going 4-26 for 15.4 %. The Celts finished with a 50-40 advantage in rebounds and forced 22 Ladies' turnovers while the Celts gave it away 16 times.

Each team picked up 11 steals, the Celts recorded 14 assists to eight for the Ladies, and St. Thomas blocked six shots while Centenary had three blocks. Jones was 4-12 from the floor in 31 minutes off the bench and grabbed seven rebounds with two steals and an assist.

Senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) scored five points in 21 minutes as she shot 2-5 from the floor and 1-1 from the free throw line. She grabbed five rebounds and had one assist, one blocked shot, and had one steal. Tremie played 35 minutes and had three steals and an assist. Bagwell grabbed a pair of rebounds, shot 2-4 from the floor and had one steal in 17 minutes. Drumgo played 16 minutes and was 2-6 from the floor.
