Ladies Fall At Home To Trinity On Sunday, 83-50

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team dropped an 83-50 decision to the Trinity University Tigers on Sunday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (3-8, 1-2 SCAC) fell 60-43 at home to the University of Dallas Crusaders on Friday night and have lost two in a row following consecutive wins. Trinity improved to 6-2 and 2-0 in SCAC play with the win. 

Trinity took a 29-21 lead at halftime but a 23-0 run by the Tigers covering the first five and a half minutes of the third quarter have them a commanding 52-21 lead until the Ladies finally scored at the 5:38 mark on a free throw by freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport). Trinity outscored the Maroon and White 35-10 in the quarter and despite the fact that the Ladies and Tigers were even (19-19) in the fourth quarter, the damage was done as Trinity cruised to the win.

Centenary hurt itself with a season-high 42 turnovers and was outrebounded 47-40. Three Trinity player finished in double figures and 11 players scored. The Ladies however turned in an impressive offensive performance despite the turnovers and lopsided margin. Centenary shot 42.6 % overall from the floor (20-47), its second-best shooting % in a single game all season.

The Ladies grabbed at least 40 rebounds in a game for the seventh time and tied their season high with 12 steals. Centenary also tallied nine assists and blocked a pair of shots. Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) led the Ladies with a career-high 25 points on 9-15 shooting in 40 minutes of action. She was 3-6 from beyond the arc and 4-4 from the free throw line. Tremie grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Sunday also marked the fifth time this season that Tremie has made at least three treys in a game and her four free throws made was a season best. Tremie recorded her third 20+ point performance of the season and fourth of her young career.

Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) joined Tremie in double figures, scoring 12 on 5-9 shooting in 28 minutes. She was 2-5 at the free throw line and grabbed five rebounds. She added four steals and an assist. Freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) scored seven in 31 minutes of relief as she was 3-6 from the floor with three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Junior Destini Powell (Minden, La.), junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) and senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) combined for six points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Bagwell grabbed seven boards and had a pair of steals and Mayberry finished with three assists, two boards, and two steals.

Centenary was 3-10 from three-point range and 7-11 from the free throw line. Trinity shot 36.8 % overall but struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 10-36 attempts. The Tigers finished 9-17 from the line for 52.9 %. Trinity harassed the Maroon and White all afternoon and wound up with 25 steals and blocked four shots. The Tigers finished with 15 turnovers of their own.

Ashlyn Milton led Trinity with 15 points on 5-13 shooting in just 15 minutes. Kelly Simmons came off the bench for an impressive performance with 14 points and 14 rebounds in just 22 minutes. She added a pair of assists and a pair of steals with a blocked shot to accompany her double-double. Maggie Shipley added 13 points and six rebounds in 19 minutes of action.

The Ladies will break for Christmas and then remain at home to face Southwestern (Friday, Dec. 31 at 4 PM) and Texas Lutheran (Saturday, Jan. 1 at 4 PM) next weekend.
