Ladies Drop 66-52 Decision On Friday At Colorado College

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Centenary women's basketball team returned to action for the first time in nearly three weeks on Friday night as the Ladies fell 66-52 to the Colorado College Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Reid Arena.

The Ladies (3-9, 1-3 SCAC) lost their third-straight game while the Tigers (6-8, 3-2 SCAC) won their third in a row. Centenary was back in action for the first time since losing 83-50 at home to Trinity on Dec. 19. 

Junior Destini Powell (Minden, La.) scored a game-high 19 points in 37 minutes with nine rebounds on 6-22 shooting. She was 6-8 from the free throw line, had one steal and Powell reached double figures for the sixth time this season. Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) scored 12 points and also had nine rebounds as she played all 40 minutes. Tremie was 3-16 from the floor, was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line and had one assist and one steal. She scored in double figures for the seventh time this season and played 40 minutes for the fifth time this season and third-straight game.

Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) played 30 minutes and scored six points with four rebounds and was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.), freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.), and fellow freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) each scored five points. Mayberry played 37 minutes, grabbed four rebounds, had three assists, one steal, and went 2-2 from the free throw line.

Leday grabbed for rebounds and had a steal in 18 minutes while Drumgo came off the bench and had five rebounds, three steals, an assist, and a blocked shot in 22 minutes of action. Her three assists are a season high and she nearly matched her sseason-high in rebounds (6) which she has done twice. 

The Ladies struggled offensively, shooting just 24.2 % (15-62) overall and connected on only 3 of 19 three-point attempts. Centenary, however, was superb at the free throw line, making a season-best 19-22 attempts (86.4 %). The Tigers finished shooting 37.3 % overall and went 9-30 from beyond the arc. CC shot only five free throws all game, making one.

The Tigers outrebounded the Ladies, 55-42, and finished with 21 assists, six steals, and four blocked shots. Centenary has seven steals, six assists, and blocked one shot. Centenary forced 19 Tigers turnovers but only turned the ball over 12 times. Two Colorado College players reached doule figures, led by 15 from Audrey Bayston. Zoe Tomlinson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. 

The Ladies wrap up their weekend with another conference contest at St. Thomas on Sunday in Houston at 2 p.m.
