Ladies Return Home To Face Southwestern On Wednesday

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team returns to its home court on Wednesday for the first time in nearly a month as the Ladies look to snap a four-game losing streak against the Southwestern University Pirates in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest set for 7:30 p.m. at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (3-10, 1-4 SCAC) dropped a pair of conference road games last weekend, falling 66-52 at Colorado College on Friday and then 56-44 to St. Thomas on Sunday in Houston. The Pirates (5-6, 1-2 SCAC) lost a pair of games last weekend to Schreiner (71-62 and 67-64). Wednesday's game was originally scheduled for New Year's weekend but was postponed and rescheduled.

Junior G Destini Powell (Minden, La.) is the Ladies' leading scorer as she averages 12.4 PPG to rank sixth in the conference. Powell had a big weekend for the Ladies, as she scored in double figures against both Colorado College and St. Thomas on the road. She scored 19 on Friday at Colorado College in 37 minutes on 6-22 shooting with nine rebounds and then had 16 in 26 minutes at St. Thomas on Sunday to average 17.5 PPG and 8.5 rebounds/game for the weekend. Powell grabbed eight rebounds on 6-16 shooting and went 9-13 from the free throw line during the weekend. Powell has reached double figures seven times this season and has done so six times in her last eight games.

Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) is second in scoring at 11.6 PPG as she has reached double figures seven times this season, has recorded a pair of double-doubles and scored 20 or more points three times including a career-high 25 versus Trinity on Dec. 19 at home. Tremie is currently eighth in the SCAC in rebounding as she averages a team-best 7.5/game.

Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) added 11 points off the bench in Sunday's game at St. Thomas. She was 4-12 from the floor in 31 minutes off the bench and grabbed seven rebounds with two steals and an assist. Jones is currently third on the team in scoring (11.3 PPG) and is third in rebounding, averaging 5.3 boards per game. She has also scored in double figures nine times this season.

Senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) has started 12 games and averages 3.8 PPG, 4.8 rebounds/game and a team-leading 2.0 assists/game. She has one double-double this season and has recorded four games with at least four assists and two steals. Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) averages 4.0 PPG and 3.4 rebounds per game, freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) is at 5.9 PPG and 2.6 rebounds per game, and fellow freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) 3.7 PPG and 3.0 RPG. Freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) played 27 minutes in Sunday's game at St. Thomas and had two steals, blocked two shots, and had an assist and a rebound. She averages 4.2 PPG and grabs 3.7 boards per game.

Centenary enters Wednesday's play averaging 54.5 PPG while the Pirates average 60.2. The two teams are similar in overall shooting this season as the Pirates shoot 34.3 % from the field and the Ladies at 33.2 %. Southwestern has two players averaging double figures, as senior G Lauren Fulenwider leads the way at 13.0 PPG and freshman F Jada Hollie averages 11.7 PPG. Sophomore F/C Princess Roberts is the Pirates' leading rebounder (11.0/game) and also leads the conference.

The Ladies have held nine opponents under 70 points this season including seven held below 60 to rank fourth in the conference allowing just 65.0 PPG. Southwestern is also stingy on the defensive end, leading the SCAC by allowing only 61.9 PPG.

The Pirates and Ladies also rank 1-2 in field goal percentage defense and the Ladies are second in three-point FG % defense while Southwestern is fourth. The Pirates are leading the conference in rebounding offense, averaging 50.5 per game while the Ladies are third at 41.8. Centenary also ranks fourth in rebounding defense (44.5/game).
