Ladies Drop Friday Night Contest Versus Dallas

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team fell 60-43 at home to the University of Dallas Crusaders on Friday night in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies dropped to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play and had their two-game winning streak snapped. Dallas improved to 3-6 and 1-1. The teams were meeting for the second time in 10 days after the Maroon and White opened conference play with a 62-59 road win over the Crusaders in Irving on Dec. 8.

Dallas jumped out to a 14-4 lead after the first quarter, but the Ladies outscored the Crusaders 10-9 in the second period to make it a 23-14 score at halftime. The Crusaders outscored the Ladies by eight (23-15) in the third quarter and the fourth quarter was even (14-14) but the first and third quarter success for Dallas allowed the Crusaders to seal the win.

Junior Destini Powell (Minden, La.) was the lone Centenary player to score in double figures as she led the Ladies with 10 points in 23 minutes. She was 6-6 from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds. Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) scored seven points, had six rebounds, and had two steals with an assist and a blocked shot.

Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) scored five in 16 minutes off the bench. She was 2-6 from the floor with four rebounds. Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) and senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) each scored four points as Tremie played all 40 minutes and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. She had an assist and a steal and was 2-7 from the floor. Mayberry played 26 minutes, grabbed three rebounds and was 2-2 from the free throw line.

Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) started and scored three points in 11 minutes. She grabbed a rebound and blocked a shot. Fellow freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) came off the bench and scored three points, grabbed five rebounds in 21 minutes of action and was 3-6 from the free throw line.

Freshman F Katelyn Simon (Lafayette, La.) had a solid performance in eight minutes off the bench as she scored four points and had five boards with a steal. Freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) scored three in 22 minutes with a rebound, an assist, and a steal and made her only free throw attempt.

Centenary shot 24.1 % (14-58) from the floor for the game and struggled from beyond the arc, making just 1-11 attempts. The Ladies were 14-25 from the free throw line and turned the ball over 17 times. Dallas shot 38.6 % overall and the Crusaders also struggled from beyond the arc and the free throw line, going 3-18 from three and 13-27 from the stripe. Dallas only turned the ball over 10 times and the Ladies outrebounded the Crusaders, 50-39. The 50 rebounds are the second-highest total in a single game this season. Centenary finished with five steals, four assists, and a pair of blocked shots. Dallas wound up with 12 steals, seven assists, and two blocks.

Dallas had three players in double figures, led by a game-high 21 from Canai McPherson in 31 minutes. She was 6-19 from the field, made a pair of three pointers, and was 7-10 from the free throw line. She added three rebounds and a steal. Alyssa Sullivan added 12 in 28 minutes off the bench and Camille Fowler scored 10 with five rebounds in 32 minutes.

The Ladies will complete the home weekend with another conference game versus the Trinity University Tigers on Sunday at 3 p.m.
