Ladies Face Schreiner On Sunday At Home To Complete Homestand

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team wraps up its three-game homestand on Sunday afternoon as the Ladies face the Schreiner Mountaineers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest set for 2 p.m. at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (3-14, 1-8 SCAC) look to snap an eight-game losing streak on Sunday against the Mountaineers (8-10, 5-4 SCAC) as the Maroon and White's last win this season came last month in its conference opener, a 62-59 win at Dallas on Dec. 9 Schreiner is 2-7 on the road this season and lost 83-76 at Austin College on Friday in Sherman, Texas.

Centenary lost at home to Austin College on Tuesday night, 67-58, as its late rally came up short, but the effort was impressive considering the 'Roos handed the Ladies a 75-39 defeat just three days prior in Sherman. Centenary also fell 63-49 to Texas Lutheran last Monday night at home as the Ladies battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit to draw within four points late in the third quarter. The Ladies have held an opponent to under 70 points an impressive 11 times this season and held nine opponents to 65 points or less. 

Junior G Destini Powell (Minden, La.) enters Sunday's game as the Ladies' leading scorer this season averaging 12.4 points per game to rank eighth in the conference. Powell posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in 29 minutes on Tuesday versus Austin College. She was also 3-3 from the free throw line and had two steals with 10 of her rebounds on the defensive end.

Powell has now reached double figures 11 times this season and has done so in 10 of her last 12 games. She is also averaging 7.6 rebounds per game which ranks seventh in the league and is in the top 15 in both free throw % (13th) and three-point FG % (15th). Powell is currently third in the SCAC in defensive rebounds and 19th in three-point FG's made.

Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) is Centenary's second leading scorer this season, averaging 11.2 PPG. She led the Ladies with 15 points on Tuesday as she recorded her 11th double-figure scoring effort of the season. Jones grabbed eight rebounds, had two blocked shots, a steal, and was a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line. She made 6-12 of her shots overall in 26 minutes of action. Jones currently ranks 12th in the conference in scoring and 20th in rebounding, averaging 5.1 board per game. She is fifth in the league in FG % (.475), 13th in offensive rebounds, and 15th in blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) is third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.9 PPG to rank 13th in the conference. Her 7.1 rebounds per game also rank 11th in the SCAC, she ranks seventh in the league in defensive rebounds, and she is the conference leader in minutes played, averaging 37.1 per game. Tremie has played all 40 minutes of a game six times this season and four times in conference play. She has scored in double figures eight times this season and topped 20 points three times highlighted by a career-high 25 versus Trinity on Dec. 19.

Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) averages 4.5 PPG and 3.5 rebounds per game for the season and scored four points and had three rebounds in 15 minutes in Tuesday's game versus the 'Roos. Bagwell also had a steal and went 2-3 from the free throw line. Senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in 38 minutes on Tuesday as she also recorded an assist and a steal and went 2-2 from the free throw line. Mayberry is averaging 3.6 PPG and 4.6 rebounds per game along with 1.9 assists per game and 1.0 steals per game.

A trio of Centenary rookies, freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.),  freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.), and freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) have all been key contributors for the Ladies this season. Leday has played in 14 games with 13 starts and is averaging 4.8 PPG and 2.3 rebounds per game. She has reached double figures three times this season. Drumgo is averaging 3.9 PPG and 2.8 rebounds/game and has seen in action with 14 games, starting a pair. She has scored in double figures twice. Jones has turned in a balanced season so far, averaging 3.7 PPG and 3.8 rebounds/game. She has seen in action in 15 games, started two, and reached double figures once.

Schreiner enters Sunday's play averaging 66.4 PPG to rank fourth in the conference and allows 72.2, worst in the conference. Demauria Miles is the leading scorer for the Mountaineers, averaging 9.6 PPG, good for 19th in the conference. Josline Hernandez is averaging 9.3 PPG and Gabby Ivarra averages 9.1 and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game to rank third in the conference.
