The Gents (5-2-1, 1-0 SCAC) opened conference play last Friday with a 1-0 victory over the University of the Ozarks Eagles at home to remain unbeaten on their home field this season at 3-0-1. The Celts enter Friday's match at 4-3 overall and 0-1 in league play after being blanked 1-0 by Colorado College last Saturday on the road.
The Celts recorded an 8-1 win over the Gents in Houston last season and lead the all-time series between the two, 5-0-1, as the first match between the two was on Oct. 18, 2019. The lone tie between the two was a memorable one as it came on April 25, 2021 in Shreveport as the No. 6 seed Gents claimed the 2020-21 SCAC Championship. Centenary bested the No. 5 seed Celts, 3-1, in a penalty kick shootout as the Gents won their first conference championship in the division III era.
The Gents have won two matches in a row as prior to their win over Ozarks last Friday, they recorded a 3-1 victory over East Texas Baptist University on Sept. 21 in Marshall, Texas. Centenary is off to its best start to a season since beginning the 2019 campaign at 6-2. The Gents were picked to finish in a tie for ninth place in the conference this season in the preseason poll while the Celts, the defending SCAC Tournament champions, were picked to finish third and received three first-place votes.
Freshman MF Emiliano Mondragon (Dallas, Texas) scored the Gents' goal on Friday against Ozarks as he found the net in the 57th minute with the assist going to senior MF Brennan Amato (Denham Springs, La.). The goal was Mondragon's second of the season while the assist was Amato's first this season and sixth in his career. Freshman GK Sebastian Lutin (Fort Worth, Texas) went the distance in goal for the Gents and made three saves in his 90 minutes. The rookie posted his second shutout of the season and was named the SCAC Men's Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Lutin leads the conference in saves (30), ranks eighth in goals against average – 0.71, and has one shutout. He has recorded five or more saves in a match three times with a season-best eight on Sept. 19 against the University of Texas at Dallas.
Centenary has featured a strong offensive attack this season as the Maroon and White have scored 21 goals and tallied 18 assists and rank in the top five in the conference in assists, goals, points, and shots. The Gents have scored three or more goals in a match four times this season, have outscored their opponents 21-5 and has posted three shutouts. Ten Gents have tallied at least one assist this season while 10 have scored at least one goal.
The Gents set a division III program era record for goals in a game with a 9-0 blowout victory over the Mississippi University for Women (MUW) Owls back on Sept. 13 at home as they raced out to a 5-0 lead at halftime and added four more goals in the second half over the Owls to coast to the win. Prior to Centenary's performance against MUW, the previous record for goals in a game was set in a 7-0 win over Hendrix College on Sept. 24, 2019. All but one of the Gents' nine goals was assisted as the eight assists sets a new D3-era record for assists in a match and the 26 points in the match is also a new D-3 era record for points in a match.
Freshman F Nathan Uduojie (Houston, Texas) is the Gents' leading goal-scorer so far this season with four and ranks in a tie for sixth in the conference. Senior MF Hunter Booth (Harrodsburg, Ky.), freshman MF Kevin Huskey Jr. (Dallas, Texas), and senior F Ron Masti (Houston, Texas) have each scored three and
Mondragon and senior F Gabriel Aragon (Forney, Texas) have each scored two goals. Mondragon is also tied for the conference lead in assists with five and freshman MF Hayden Hughes (Dallas, Texas) is tied for sixth with three.
A Glance at the Celts:

Daniel Castro and Hani Ahmadie share the team lead with three goals each.
