San Antonio, Texas - The Centenary men's soccer team fell 4-0 on Sunday afternoon to the Trinity University Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match and its season finale at Paul McGinlay Field.
The Gents finish their season at 7-9-2 overall and 3-7-1 in SCAC play while the Tigers improved to 15-1-3 and 10-0-1 in SCAC play. Centenary, which tied Schreiner University 3-3 on Friday, finishes with a 2-4-1 road record. Trinity finishes 10-0-2 at home.
Trinity led 1-0 at halftime after Adam Knutson's 14th goal of the season in the 33rd minute with the assist credited to Will Powell. The Tigers then scored three times in the second half to distance themselves from the Gents and seal the shutout.
Tom Whitwell's first goal of the season, assisted by Louis Instrall, made it 2-0 in the 54th minute, Mark Donnelly's fourth made it 3-0 in the 76th minute, and Alex Baltov capped the scoring with his second goal of the season in the 89th minute. Instrall finished with a pair of assists as he also aided on Donnelly's goal and Joey Perryman assisted on Baltov's.
Freshman GK Sebastian Lutin (Fort Worth, Texas) started in goal for the Gents and played all 90 minutes, recording 12 saves. Trinity played a pair of GK's as Omkar Satpathy started and played the first 80:51 and was replaced by Joshua Lynch who went the final 9:09.
Lutin finished off an impressive rookie season as he finishes with a conference-leading 102 saves and ranks in the top 20 in the country. He posted a goals against average (GAA) of 1.50 and a save percentage of .810. He made 16 starts, tallied one shutout, and had four matches with 10+ saves. He made a season-high 16 saves at Colorado College on Oct. 6, finishing one save shy of the division III era (2011-present) single-match record of 17 and his 16 saves are the most in a match by a SCAC player all season.
Lutin, named the SCAC Men's Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1, entered the weekend ranked in the top 50 in the nation in both in saves per game and save percentage. His 102 saves are the seventh-most in a single season in the division III era (2011-present).
The Gents' seven victories this season are their most since winning eight in 2019 and their three conference wins are their most since winning three in 2020.
