Marshall, Texas – The Centenary women's basketball team heads to East Texas this weekend for a pair of non-conference games in the East Texas Baptist University Classic, beginning on Friday as the Ladies will face the LeTourneau University YellowJackets at 5 p.m. at Ornleas Gym.

The Ladies (0-1) will then face the host Tigers of ETBU on Saturday at 3 p.m. Centenary fell 63-50 in its regular-season opener to the Louisiana Christian University Wildcats on Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest in Pineville. This evening's contest is the season opener for LeTourneau.

Tuesday's game was called early with 6:19 remaining in the fourth quarter due to issues of humidity and moisture on the court. The teams opted to call the game early after multiple stoppages of play with the Wildcats leading by 13.

Centenary shot 29.7 % (19-64) from the floor for the game while Louisiana Christian finished at 38.7 % (26-62). Both teams struggled from beyond the arc as the Ladies finished just 22.2 % (4-18) and the Wildcats went 5-17 for only 29.4 %. The Maroon and White finished 8-14 from the free throw line for 57.1 % and LC made just 10-16 for 62.5 %. The Wildcats enjoyed a decisive advantage in rebounding (56-34).

Louisiana Christian held a 21-12 edge after one quarter and then outscored the Ladies by 10 in the second period (27-17) for a 48-29 halftime lead. Centenary, however, responded in the third quarter and outscored the home team 19-11. The Wildcats scored four points to the Ladies' two in the fourth quarter before the game was called prematurely. The Ladies finished with an impressive 15 steals and added 11 assists and five blocks while the Wildcats had just the opposite with 15 assists and 11 steals and also blocked five shots.

Sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) led the Ladies with 13 points on 5-13 shooting in 30 minutes. She added six rebounds, five coming on the defensive end of the court, with four blocks and three assists. She hit one 3-pointer and finished 2-3 at the free throw line. Freshman G Jillian Peacock (West Monroe, La.) was next with eight points in her collegiate debut while senior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) scored seven. Peacock played 17 minutes off the bench and made 3-9 shots overall, hit one trey, and made her only free throw attempt. She grabbed four rebounds and had one steal. Jazzmyn Jones also came off the bench and played 12 minutes, making 3-6 shots and grabbing three boards.

Freshman G Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.) added five points in her Ladies' debut as she started and played 16 minutes. She was 2-6 from the floor, hit one of his two 3-point attempts, and had three rebounds, a pair of steals, and one assist. Sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) chipped in four points in her 16 minutes and had a game-high five steals to go with two assists, two rebounds, and a steal. Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) and freshman G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.) each scored three points. Bagwell played four minutes and had one rebound and one assist while Davis, another Centenary player making her debut, played 12 minutes and had one rebound.

Freshman G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.), freshman F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.), and freshman G Lauren Castillo (Keller, Texas) each scored two points and another newcomer, freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.) scored one. Plumber added two steals and a rebound, Stokes grabbed a pair of rebounds, and Castillo had three rebounds and a steal. Major was very active as she finished with four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

The Ladies are 8-5 all-time versus LeTourneau and 6-8 versus ETBU. Centenary opened last season with a 69-64 win over the YellowJackets at home and the Maroon and White are facing the Tigers for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
