Ladies Fall 68-44 At Home To Dallas On Friday

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team fell 68-44 on Friday to the University of Dallas Crusaders in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (0-14, 0-5 SCAC) led 12-11 after a quarter of play but a 29-8 advantage in the second period by the Crusaders (6-5, 2-2 SCAC) gave them a 40-20 halftime lead and then they edged the Ladies 28-24 after halftime to seal the win.

Centenary struggled offensively, shooting a season-low 13.7 % (10-73) from the field and finished 4-16 from beyond the arc for 25 % and 20-34 from the free throw line for 58.8 %. Dallas finished 23-64 from the floor for 35.9 %, went 5-13 from 3-point range for 38.5 % and 17-26 from the FT line for 65.4 %. Dallas edged Centenary 58-57, in rebounds as the Ladies finished just four boards shy of their season-best 61 against Hendrix on Nov. 18.

Sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Ladies but was the only Centenary player to reach double figures. Ashley Hall was one of three Crusaders in double figures and matched Jones with 17. Adryan Alvarez had 16 and Tessa Hastings added 14. Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, Jones had 12 for her third double-double of the season, recorded her sixth double-figure scoring game as well as sixth double-digit rebounding effort. Jordan Gillespie grabbed 11 rebounds in 18 minutes for Dallas but was held scoreless.

Sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) scored six points and grabbed nine rebounds in her 27 minutes off the bench. She was 4-6 from the FT line but only 1-18 from the floor. She added three steals and blocked a shot. Bagwell scored three points to go with her 13 boards and added a blocked shot as she finished 3-6 from the FT line.

Freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) scored five and the Ladies got four points apiece from freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.) and freshman G Jillian Peacock (West Monroe, La.). Freshman F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) grabbed six rebounds and blocked a shot in 12 minutes but did not score as she fouled out.

Centenary finished with 10 steals, four blocked shots, and no assists while Dallas tallied 10 assists, six steals, and five blocked shots. Dallas' bench was a key factor as it contributed 40 points to 15 for the Ladies. Dallas scored 13 points off turnovers to eight for Centenary, and the Crusaders edged the Ladies 18-14 in second-chance points. Dallas turned the ball over 18 times and Centenary gave it away 16 times.

Nine Crusaders scored as Maria Dicenta had seven, Nora Aigberadion added four, Alyssa Sullivan and Caroline Croft each had three, and Bailey Melton and Ashlee Leverett each scored two. Seven Dallas players had four or more rebounds and three Crusaders tallied two or more assists.

The Ladies will face Austin College on Saturday at 1 p.m. to close out the calendar year.
