Ladies Fall To Bulldogs On Senior Day

Shreveport– The Centenary women's basketball team fell 75-50 to the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Senior Day at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (2-19, 2-10 SCAC) earned a split during the weekend following their 59-50 victory on Friday over Southwestern. The Bulldogs upped their record to 11-9 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The Ladies honored their two seniors in a pregame ceremony - senior G Patience Bates (Houston, Texas) and senior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas).

Sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) recorded a double-double to lead the Ladies in scoring and rebounding on Sunday with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jones played 39 minutes and was 5-8 from the floor, 2-2 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 from the free throw line. She added four steals and a blocked shot as she has now reached double figures seven times, grabbed 10 or more rebounds in a game eight times, and has five double-doubles.

Sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) joined her in double figures with 10 points in her 24 minutes off the bench. Drumgo was 2-8 overall and 6-9 at the FT line. She added a pair of assists and a rebound and reached double figures for the ninth time, seven coming in conference play. Drumgo has scored in double figures in four-straight games and in five of her last six. Freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) and freshman F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) each scored seven points and freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.) added six.

Barrow played 34 minutes and was 5-6 at the FT line with four steals, two rebounds and an assist. Stokes grabbed six rebounds and added two steals and a blocked shot in 24 minutes and was 7-8 at the FT line. Major played 32 minutes and hit a pair of treys with two rebounds and a steal.

Freshman G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.), freshman G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.), and freshman G Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.) each scored two points. Davis added an assist and a rebound and she was 2-2 at the FT line, Plumber had one steal, and Sepulvado grabbed one rebound.

Davi'Yanna Jones led the Bulldogs with 14 points, Kailee Mulkey had 13, and Lauren Sansano added 12. Six other players scored four or more points, and 11 Bulldogs scored in total. Jones added a team-high seven rebounds in her 23 minutes.

The Ladies shot just 24.5 % (12-49) from the floor and 4-17 (23.5 %) from beyond the arc but once again were solid at the free throw line, finishing 22-27 for 81.5 %. Centenary was an impressive 29-36 (80.6 %) at the line in Friday's win. TLU was 29-60 from the floor for a solid 48.3 % and 12-17 at the FT line for 70.6 % and went 5-14 from 3-point range for 35.7 %.

The Bulldogs outrebounded the Ladies 44-30 and forced 19 turnovers and turned the ball over 18 times themselves. Centenary recorded four assists, 12 steals, and blocked two shots while TLU had 10 assists, 11 steals, and three blocks. The Bulldogs were dominant inside, finishing with a 38-12 advantage in points in the paint. TLU's bench also scored 47 points while the Ladies' contributed 20.

TLU started fast and led 7-0 before a trey by Jones at the 5:22 mark of the first period gave the Ladies their first points. The lead grew to 17-3 before a free throw by Drumgo at the 1:34 mark made it 17-4 and the Bulldogs held a 19-6 lead headed into the second quarter. Centenary clawed back in the second 10 minutes, only being outscored 13-12 to trail 32-18 at halftime. The Ladies, despite being down 29-8 with 7:42 remaining in the quarter, held the Bulldogs scoreless for the final 5:35 of the second quarter.

The Ladies scored the first four points of the half to cut their deficit to just 10 and held the Bulldogs scoreless until the 6:15 mark when Mulkey made a basket to make it 34-22, snapping a nearly 10-minute span with no points. Another trey by Jones got the Ladies within single digits at 36-27 with 5:02 left, and the teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter, but the Bulldogs were able to extend their lead in the final minutes for a 51-39 advantage after three quarters. TLU then put the game away with a 24-11 advantage in the fourth quarter to seal the 25-point win.

Centenary is on the road next weekend for a pair of conference games, Friday, Feb. 3 at the University of Dallas (5:30 PM) and on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Austin College (4 PM).
