Ladies Fall At Hendrix 77-47 On Monday Night

Conway, Ark. – The Centenary women's basketball team fell 77-47 to the Hendrix College Warriors on Monday evening in a non-conference game at Groves Gym.

The Ladies (0-6) and Warriors (2-4) were meeting for the second time in four days after Hendrix edged the Maroon and White, 63-62 on Friday evening at the Gold Dome.

Hendrix jumped out to a 23-11 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Ladies 18-7 in the second period to take a 41-18 halftime lead. The Warriors scored 16 points in the third quarter to the Ladies' 12 and edged the Maroon and White 20-17 in the fourth quarter.

Centenary shot 35.2 % (19-54) from the floor for the game, 4-15 from 3-point range for 26.7 %, and 5-8 from the free throw line for 62.5 %. The Warriors finished 25-68 from the field for 36.8 %, 8-29 from beyond the arc (27.6 %), and spent a great deal of time at the free throw line, making 19-26 attempts for 73.1 %.

Freshman G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.) led the Ladies with 11 points as she was the only Centenary player to reach double figures. Davis finished 4-11 overall from the floor in 25 minutes off the bench and was 3-9 from beyond the arc. She also scored 11 versus Hendrix last Friday. She added a pair of rebounds and one steal. Freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.) scored nine in 17 minutes on 4-6 shooting with one assist and one steal.

Senior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds in 28 minutes. She was 4-8 shooting overall with an assist and a steal. Sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) scored seven in 35 minutes with seven rebounds on 2-6 shooting. She was 2-2 from the free throw line and 1-2 from beyond the arc with two assists and a steal.

Freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) chipped in four points and grabbed two boards in just 14 minutes with a pair of steals. Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) also scored four in 18 minutes with two rebounds and a blocked shot and was 2-2 from the floor. Sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) scored three in 16 minutes on 1-6 shooting and went 1-2 from the free throw line. She grabbed three rebounds with an assist and a steal.

Freshman G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.), freshman G Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.), freshman G Keyonna Armelin (New Iberia, La.), freshman G Lauren Castillo (Keller, Texas), and senior G Patience Bates (Houston, Texas) all played but did not score. Sophomore G Cairah Green (Zachary, La.) made her Ladies' debut and played two minutes and scored one point as she went 1-2 at the free throw line.

Four Warriors scored in double figures led by a game-high 14 from Madi Pierce. Simone Shields scored 13, Kennedi Burns scored 12, and Alicia McCloria scored 10. Shelby Heil added nine, Blysse Harmon scored eight, Megan Gray scored six and Bella Cates had five. Pierce grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and Heil was just behind her with nine. Burns and Gray each dished out four assists, Shields had three steals, and Harmon, McCloria, and Pierce each had two assists.

Hendrix finished with a decisive edge in rebounding (53-32) and forced the Ladies into 28 turnovers while the Warriors turned it over 21 times themselves. Centenary finished with 12 steals, eight assists, and one blocked shot. Hendrix had 14 assists, 11 steals, and did not block a shot. The Warriors finished with a slight edge in points in the paint (28-24) and had 13 second-chance points to the Ladies' eight. Hendrix scored 27 points off of turnovers while Centenary scored 17. The Warriors received 27 points from their bench and the Ladies got 25.

Centenary will play a pair of games this weekend in the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic in Jackson, Miss. The Ladies will face the host Majors on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
