Ladies Fall At Southwestern On Friday

Georgetown, Texas – The Centenary women's basketball team fell 70-38 on Friday evening to the Southwestern University Pirates in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Robertson Center.

The Ladies (0-12, 0-3 SCAC) were back in action for the first time since a home loss to Schreiner on Dec. 4. The Pirates (6-4, 3-0 SCAC) extended their winning streak to four with Friday's victory and have now won three games in a row over the Ladies.

Centenary fell behind 25-8 after a quarter and 36-20 at halftime and could not recover. The Pirates outscored the Ladies in the third period, 18-6, and then 16-12 in the final quarter. The Ladies struggled offensively, shooting just 20.3 % (14-69) from the floor for the game and did not make a 3-point basket, finishing 0-17. Centenary finished 10-19 (52.6 %) from the free throw line and was outrebounded 48-39.

Southwestern shot 35.8 % (24-67) for the game, 32 % (8-25) from beyond the arc, and finished 14-32 (60.9 %) from the free throw line. The Pirated finished with a 26-16 edge in points in the paint and 32-15 in bench points. Each team turned the ball over 14 times and Southwestern scored 11 points off the Ladies' 14 TO's while Centenary scored 10. The Pirates had 11 second-chance points to the Ladies' six and scored four fast break points while the Ladies had none.

Sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) led the Ladies with nine points and freshman F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) played for the first time in over a month and scored a season-high eight points. Sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) added six and The Ladies got four points each from freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) and senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.). Freshman G Jillian Peacock (West Monroe, La.), freshman G Keyonna Armelin (New Iberia, La.) and freshman G Lauren Castillo (Keller, Texas) each scored two.

Drumgo finished 4-12 from the floor in 24 minutes, grabbed seven rebounds, and blocked three shots. Stokes came off the bench and played 22 minutes, grabbing six rebounds and finished 4-8 at the free throw line with one steal. Jones was just 2-15 from the floor in 31 minutes but grabbed a team and game-high 11 rebounds with an assist and a steal. Jones entered the game ranked second in the conference in rebounding averaging 10.1 per game. Jones has recorded five double-digit rebounding efforts this season and done so in three-straight games.

Barrow was 2-5 from the floor in 21 minutes with four rebounds, an assist and a steal. Bagwell played 19 minutes and had two steals, a rebound, and a blocked shot. Peacock came off the bench and in 16 minutes she grabbed three rebounds with an assist and a steal. Freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.) chipped in one point in 13 minutes as se went 1-2 at the free throw line and freshman G Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.) did not score but she grabbed five board and dished out a pair of assists in her 14 minutes.

Southwestern had three players reach double figures, led by 13 from Aniyah Burke. Emily Edwards and R'Yani Vaughn each scored 10. Ward grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as sje just missed a double-double. Seven other Pirates scored three or more points as 14 Southwestern players scored in all.

The Ladies will next face the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs on Saturday at 2 p.m.
