St. Simons Island, Ga. - The Centenary women's golf team shot a 122-over par 410 on Monday in the opening round of the Coastal Georgia Women's Winter Invite as the Ladies began their spring season at the King and Prince Golf Resort.
The host College of Coastal Georgia is an NAIA school located in Brunswick, Ga. and a member of the Sun Conference. The second and final round, consisting of 18 holes, begins on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
Newberry College is the leader after one round following a 17-over par 305 and is one shot ahead of Southeastern University (Fla.) at 18-over 306. SCAD-Atlanta is third at 26-over 314, host Coastal Georgia shot a 27-over 315 and is in fourth place, St. Thomas (Fla.) is in fifth after shooting a 33-over 321, and Blue Mountain Christian University shot a 38-over 326 and is in sixth place. Ave Maria is in seventh place (60-over par 348), and Spartanburg Methodist is in eighth place at 86-over 374 ahead of the Ladies who are in ninth place.
Freshman Hailey Adams (Hamburg, Ark.) had the Ladies' best round on Monday as she shot a 26-over par 98 and is tied for 43rd place. Sophomore Kaylee Roberts (Watonga, Okla.) shot a 29-over 101 and is in 46th place, freshman Mya Thompson (South Jordan, Utah) is in 49th place after shooting a 33-over par 105, and freshman Jordyn Templeton (Columbus, Texas) shot a 34-over par 106 and is in 50th place.
Newberry's Nicole Strydom is the individual leader after shooting a 1-under par 71 and is one shot ahead of Coastal Georgia's Madelyn Taylor, who shot an even-par 72. Georgetown College and Georgia Military College have individuals participating this week but neither are competing as a team. Nine individuals in total are competing and Coastal Georgia's Laura Kessler is the top so far as she shot a six-over par 78 to sit in 11th place.
Next up for the Ladies will be the annual Pinecrest Invitational March 11-12 in Longview, Texas held at the Pinecrest Country Club.
