St. Simons Island, Ga. - The Centenary women's golf team shot a 251-over par 827 to finish ninth in the Coastal Georgia Women's Winter Invite on Tuesday in the Ladies' opening tournament of their spring season at the King and Prince Golf Resort.
The Ladies, who shot a 122-over par 410 on Monday in the opening round, followed with a 129-over 417 in Tuesday's final round. Southeastern University (Fla.) won the tournament at 40-over par 6161, nine shots ahead of day one leader Newberry College (49-over par 625).
The host school- College of Coastal Georgia, finished third at 55-over 631, SCAD-Atlanta placed fourth (58-over par 634), St. Thomas (Fla.) finished fifth at 72-over 648, Blue Mountain Christian University was sixth (83-over par 659), Ave Maria finished in seventh place (122-over par 698), and Spartanburg Methodist finished eighth at 161-over par 737. Coastal Georgia's Madelyn Taylor claimed the individual title at 4-over par 148, finishing one shot ahead of Newberry's Nicole Strydom (5-over par 149).
Strydom was the leader after round one as she shot a 1-under par 71 and lead Taylor by one stroke. Three golfers finished tied at 6-over par, one finished at 8-over, and three at 9-over par as nine golfers were separated by just five strokes.
Freshman Hailey Adams (Hamburg, Ark.) earned the Ladies' best finish as she finished 46th at 57-over par 201. She shot a 31-over 103 on Tuesday after a 26-over par 98 on Monday.
Sophomore Kaylee Roberts (Watonga, Okla.) finished 48th at 61-over par 205 after rounds of 101-104, freshman Mya Thompson (South Jordan, Utah) finished 49th after shooting rounds of 105-101 to finish at 62-over par 206 and has finished in the top 50 in every tournament so far this season, and freshman Jordyn Templeton (Columbus, Texas) finished 50th at 71-over par 215 after rounds of 106-109.
Next up for the Ladies will be the annual Pinecrest Invitational March 11-12 in Longview, Texas held at the Pinecrest Country Club.
