Gents Set To Face Hawks In Home Opener

Shreveport- The Centenary lacrosse team is set to face the Huntingdon College Hawks in its home opener on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference contest set for 1 p.m. at Mayo Field.

The Gents (0-2) battled the Shorter University Hawks in a road contest before falling 9-6 on Feb. 12 and responded well following a disappointing loss to the Reinhardt University Eagles on Feb. 10 in their season opener in Waleska, Ga. The Hawks (1-2) won at Spalding by a score of 22-1 last Saturday in their most recent action.

Senior M Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) leads the Gents with four goals, senior A/MF Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) is next with three, and sophomore A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) and senior D Matthew Lulich (New Orleans, La.) each have one. Cook, freshman M Ethan Hewett (Bossier City, La.), and sophomore MF Dominic Ogier (St. Louis, Mo.) share the team lead in assists with two each.

Freshman Thomas Jordan (Dallas, Texas) has started both of the Gents' games in goal and has gone the distance in each, making 24 saves. Jordan also has seven ground balls to rank second on the team, tied with freshman FO/M Aiden Stillwell (Shreveport, La.) behind Cook (nine). Senior Ben Vazquez (San Antonio, Texas) has collected six ground balls, Ogier has five, and Temple and sophomore MF Seven Davillier (Shreveport, La.) each have four.

Senior D Ethan Little (Tyler, Texas) has three and senior LSM Jackson Ossman (Shreveport, La.) and sophomore M Xavier Nixon (Dallas, Texas) each have two. Hewett, Lulich, and senior John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) each have one.

Cook leads the team in caused turnovers (three) while Davillier and Little each with two. Hewett, Ossman, Vazquez and junior D Kaleb Coates (Shreveport, La.) each have one. Cook leads the way in shots with 19 and points with six and 11 shots on goal. Spivey has taken eight shots, Temple Six, and Hewett and Waniewski each have taken five.

The Gents lost to the Hawks on the road last season by a score of 16-3 and the teams played twice during the 2022 season with the Hawks edging the Gents 15-14 at Mayo Field and winning 16-12 on their home field later in the season.
