Gents Hammer Spalding To Pick Up First Win Of Season

Louisville, Ky. – The Centenary lacrosse team hammered the Spalding University Golden Eagles by a score of 16-2 on Sunday afternoon as the Gents recorded their first victory of the season at Legacy Fields.

The Gents (1-4) scored their most goals in a game since recording a 16-10 win at Mount. St. Joseph University last season. The Golden Eagles fell to 0-3 with the loss. Centenary defeated Spalding 23-2 at home last season.

Sophomore A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) scored a game-high five goals and finished with eight for the weekend after tallying a hat trick against Hanover College on Friday. Spivey has scored a team-high 14 goals this season with 13 coming in the last three games.

Senior M Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) scored four, freshman M Ethan Hewett (Bossier City, La.) scored three, and senior A/MF Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) added two. Sophomore MF Dominic Ogier (St. Louis, Mo.) had five assists and Cook and Spivey each had two. Sophomore MF Seven Davillier (Shreveport, La.) had a game-high eight ground balls and Temple and senior LSM Jackson Ossman (Shreveport, La.) each had five. Junior D Kaleb Coates (Shreveport, La.) and senior LSM Ben Vazquez (San Antonio, Texas) each had three ground balls and six players picked up two ground balls each.

Centenary finished with 16 caused turnovers as Ossman led the way with four and three players had two each. The Gents took 47 shots while the Golden Eagles took 35. Centenary recorded 39 ground balls and Spalding finished with 26. The Golden Eagles turned the ball over 26 times and the Gents gave it away 18 times. The Gents won 13-20 face offs and the Golden Eagles finished 7-20. Centenary was 11-17 on clears and Spalding went 12-16.

Junior Dylan Miller (Shreveport, La.) started in goal for Centenary and recorded a season-high 18 saves while Spalding played a pair of goalies as John Kelly started and allowed 10 goals and made eight saves in 35:15 and Ethan Jahr played the final 24:45 and allowed six goals and made 10 saves. Cooper Robinson and Nicolas Guzman each scored a goal for Spalding as Guzman assisted Robinson's goal and Xzayvyon Isom assisted Guzman's.

Centenary held a slim 1-0 lead after the first quarter and exploded for seven goals in the second quarter while Guzman found the net for the Golden Eagles in the quarter as the Gents went into the halftime locker room with an 8-1 lead. The Gents edged the Gold Eagles 2-1 in the third period and blanked them 6-0 in the final 15 minutes.

Spivey took a game-high 12 shots with nine coming on goal, Hewett and Temple each took eight shots and Cook took seven. Seven of Hewett's shots were on goal, Cook had five shots on goal, two ground balls, and one caused turnover. Ogier, along with his five assists, finished with five shots (three on goal) and two ground balls with one caused turnover.

Centenary returns home for a pair of contests as the Maroon and White face Mt. St. Joseph University on Monday, March 11 at 5 p.m. and Hendrix College on Wednesday, March 13 at 7 p.m.
