Shreveport – The Centenary men's and women's soccer teams will prep for their 2023 seasons with a pair of exhibition contests on Friday against the Wiley College Wildcats set for 6 and 8 p.m. at Mayo Field.
The women's match will start at 6 p.m. with the men's match to follow at 8 p.m. The Gents will face the Wildcats for the first time since the two faced off in an exhibition match on Aug. 23, 2018 in Marshall, Texas won by Wiley, 2-1. Centenary won a pair of matches over the Wildcats during the 2002 season – 4-0 and 17-0. The Ladies are 1-1 all-time against Wiley, winning 3-0 during the 2013 season and falling 3-1 in their most recent meeting in 2014.
Wiley's soccer programs are returning to action for the first time since 2018. Both the men and women played as club teams last fall and will compete in the Continental Athletic Conference after being a part of the Red River Athletic Conference from 2012-2018. Friday's matches count as regular-season contests for Wiley.
The Gents will play one more exhibition game, on Thursday, Aug. 24 at LeTourneau University at 7 p.m. and begin the regular season at University of the Ozarks on Friday, Sept. 1 in a non-conference match set for 5:30 p.m. in Clarksville, Ark.
The Gents, led by third-year head coach Kevin White, are scheduled to play 16 regular-season contests, eight at home, seven road matches, and one neutral-site match. Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play begins at home against Colorado College on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The Gents' first league match on the road is set for Friday, Oct. 13 against The University of Dallas. The Gents will play eight conference matches and eight non-conference matches.
The Ladies begin the regular season at University of the Ozarks on Saturday, Sept. 2 in a non-conference match set for Noon in Clarksville, Ark. Led by fourth-year head coach Morgan Dorsey, the Ladies are scheduled to play 18 regular-season contests, seven at home, 10 road matches, and one neutral-site match. SCAC play begins at home against Texas Lutheran University on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. The Ladies' first league match on the road is set for Friday, Oct. 13 against The University of Dallas. The Ladies will play seven conference matches and 11 non-conference matches.
